IMO there will be a lot of demand for used EVs for quite a while since the mfgs aren't going to be able to meet demand for new EVs for a long, long time. We're talking about low single digits of total car sales over the next few years. We *might* be at 10-15% in 5 years. Mfgs just aren't going to be able to make enough. The problem with buying now is that a vehicle with 230mi range isn't going to be competitive in a few years. 300mi will be on the bottom end. That's one of the better reasons to get the ER battery, the resale on the SR trucks might not be very good.

When I was surveyed by Ford several months ago, the survey showed $7000 for the extended range battery. I’m hoping that is more realistic, but power boards were shown at just under $400, and the Max Trailer Tow package at $895. That has me thinking the survey was a bit skewed.

If you are concerned about a newer version Lightning proposed for later, then by all means wait for it.
You may be waiting for years...
I am getting one now before I retire so that I will have a truck that I can depend on...
Just like the Apple forum where people say they will wait for the iPhone 199si or some futuristic model to come out before they buy one....

The only thing we really know is that it is planned as a bottom up EV truck design vs. reusing a lot of ICE F150 parts like the Lightning

The MI plant will produce 80,000+ and can expand and the Blue Oval plant is 3X as big and comes online before 2025..

The Second Gen might be the one to get and if that is your plan I think Reserving now might still be a good idea. Let’s say you have to wait until 2024, by that time Ford will have enough Data for Battery Management. They might use the same batteries in the Second Gen with a new Body style for the lower trims Pro/XLT and new Batteries for the higher Trims. Who knows but there are some exciting times ahead. The CT will be out also and some might drop their Ford Orders to jumó into that.
