So the last time my Ford Pass connected to the Lightning was 2/10. I called Ford and they took me through several troubleshooting steps and determined it was a known issue and that a update should be coming by the end of Feb to fix this. Was told to just keep connected to the home WIFI to make sure I received the update.

Got home and double checked to make sure I was still connected to my home WIFI. It connected with no issue when I first set it up in January. Well got home and checked and it was not connecting. Called Ford and they tried trouble shooting the issue with no luck. Was told I most likely have a bad chip.

Anyone else have this issue? I would also recommend everyone check their trucks to make sure your truck is still connecting to your home WIFI as I had no warning it was dropped and not connected.

Ford also told me I have not had an update since I purchased on 1/13/23. Does anyone know if there have been any over the air updates since mid Jan.?

Try, deleting [FORGET] the saved SSID for your home network on the truck console.

Restart your home network, wait ~15 minutes or when you know the home network is operating.

Try rejoining the home network.

I'm at 4.1.3 since Jan 27th, nothing since

Your FordPass issue has nothing to do with your truck connecting to WiFi, not anything to do with updates.

If your cellular modem is working, then the truck can get updates.

Thanks Taxman. I will give it a try tonight when I get home.

Thanks for your reply and you are right. I only spoke to the FordPass issue to set up how I found out my truck had dropped my connection with my home WIFI. Wasn't implying it had anything to do with my WIFI connection issue.

Two things;

I was under the impression that once the vehicle had been setup properly for a user's home Wi-Fi (working password etc.) that it subsequently only connected to the home Wi-Fi when it needed to for some reason.

The second thing is your truck probably will never need to connect to your home Wi-Fi for anything unless you want to sit in the seat with it in accessory mode and play some Youtube videos or watch some of the ABC content.

Updates are pushed through the vehicles TCU which is provisioned by AT&T LTE (nope, not 5G). This is likely for security reasons to prevent MIM attacks.

As a result of this fact I couldn't care less if my car or truck ever connected to my home Wi-Fi as it provides no benefit whatsoever to updating, or anything else of significance.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. Funny how Ford support didn't understand that. They were sure I should be able to connect to home wifi and said I should take it to dealer asap.

Wouldn't shock me that a forum member knows more than a Ford customer service rep though.

Both my Mach-E and my Lightning connect to my WiFi every time I pull into the garage.
Some guys on the Mach-E forum have reported occasionally seeing big chunks of data traffic over their networks to their cars at night.
Any further comments would just be speculation on my part.

Try resetting your home WiFi router.
Make sure it is broadcasting a SSID on 2.4GHz.

My '22 Lightning has not forgotten connecting to my home's Wifi since day 1.

On the road, I use a Verizon MiFi hotspot with unlimited data that broadcasts on both 2.4 and 5 GHz.

Using the hotspot, it's easy to watch YouTube videos away from home.

Yes, there are occasional large data packets that are received by the truck over WiFi.
It's mostly SSL/TLS traffic.

I use the Ubiquiti UDM + U6 Mesh routers and monitor data thru both main and remote WAPs mostly to monitor what traffic my kids are connecting to...

I do the same but I don’t have the DM as I use the EdgeRouter Infinity with CloudKey and U6-Pros. Regardless I have logging enabled and I can trace large downloads per session.

Backhauling all the metrics for your recent drives around town? Vehicle performance data being sent to the cloud? All the locations you went to? Conversations between you and your significant other? Who knows.

That is what I figured--I get updates--but why then do I need the wifi in the truck? My cellular is unlimited, but still it seems like the wifi would be better than the cellular connection.

Answered in other thread you commented on, but for onlookers who might not see the post, the Lightning has an independent cell connection as part of the telematics services, the majority of updates arrive via that channel, in the event of failures, the truck can receive the updates via the wifi connection.
