Did you create a passcode to start truck in an emergency? I have had to do that several times over the last 19 months because I didn't have phone or fob with me. Always have door keycode and passcode memorized and ready for events like this.

PaaK is not infallible. I never go anywhere without my fob, and certainly wouldn't on a trip. Sure, it may work 99 out of 100 times, or 99,999 out of 100,000 times, but the time it fails isn't worth it.

Good advice.
Just in case your memory isn't that good, you can also jot the codes down in a Note or Contact app on your phone.

I have the door code so getting in was not an issue. And I did have a backup passcode but at some point my phone key got reset and I think my backup passcode got deleted. I'll be sure to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Not certain you did this based on what you've shared, but a word of wisdom for everyone, DO NOT reset / delete the Fordpass app when away from one of your FOB's, reconfiguring a new install or an existing install where the user data has been deleted will disable your control via the phone.

But as long as the backup code in the Sync screen hasn't been deleted, it should still work.

Thats what I thought and why I have NOT deleted the app or reset my settings as of yet. Now Ford roadside is telling me they are not allowed to try a jumpstart of my battery because it’s an electric vehicle. Ugh.

Then what's the purpose of having the battery post under the passenger side panel? It's certainly not for jump starting others only, or is it?

This won't help you for this trip but I really like the phone as a key app but was afraid of your situation. So I purchased one of those protective pouches and put my key fab in it and hit it in my truck. So if my phone stops working, I just have to remember my lock code.

This may happen after a short drive and a non-immobilization update is still in progress. If there is an update in progress, you may not get the "No Key Detected" message. More likely, PAAK is simply hung on the phone.

All been said, but 2.5 years with 2 Ford EVs, and here is what I do:
  1. Restart the phone
  2. Use the passcode if restarting the phone doesn't work. PAAK has always worked 15 minutes later when I get home. I think it just needs time or a kick in the privates to finish the update.
  3. Carry a keyfob with the battery flipped - just in case. Some hide it in the truck, I simply put it in my travel bag so it doesn't sit in the truck unattended. I haven't needed the keyfob yet.
  4. Carry a 10mm wrench to do a full 12v reset as a last resort if needed. I haven't had to do that yet due to PAAK issues.
  5. Restart your phone after every FordPass update. It seems to be needed most of the time for PAAK to work after the update of either the OS or the FordPass app.

I think I will do that in the future.

After speaking with Ford and trying their troubleshooting steps, none of which worked, my last resort is getting the truck towed.

Since it’s under warranty, it won’t cost me anything other than pain and suffering. I’m about 80 to 90 miles from home, and they told me to drive it to a dealership about 50 miles away. That will make it easy for somebody to the fob to me.

Unfortunately, the tow truck is going to take hours to get to me.

A cautionary tale for all of you. One make sure you’re back up password is up to speed and if possible keep a fob in your truck even if you take out the battery, but you can use it if in an emergency.

Looking forward to the Ford Tech diagnostic report about the state of your trucks LVB.
