Is it the actual cells as the source of the problem, or the battery management system's ability to isolate, or reduce the impact, of certain pouches when they become irregular??
Ford is still making deals with SK On, so I am assuming the fabrication of the pouches aren't the only source of these module failures. Ford assembles the modules, Mickey pointed out how difficult it is to remove a pouch so I assume those pouch connections aren't the issue??
Is it the software inside the BMS that can't deal with "natural" tolerance of the pouch voltages ??

Fascinating problem, but not when it involves the main vehicle I have come to use and enjoy...
IIRC reading that it was tolerances not being followed in the manufacturing of the individual pouch cell that was the problem.

Sounds like they have a similar problem to Ford's techs not reading and following instructions when performing CSP's. I'm pretty sure schools still teach kids how to read, right?

Add mine to the heap - 23 LER. 19K miles, received the wrench and 57% power today. No other previous issues. Guessing bad battery module?

Build date of 11/22

Not sure about the root cause, maybe humans are involved during calibration / machine set up, ongoing QA monitoring of the production output, who knows for sure, SK-On and Ford haven't really explained that to the public.

Speculation here: How often do the people getting hit with this charge to 100%? I forget if that's been asked. I wonder if slow charging to 100 and allowing the battery to balance the cells can aid in keeping the pack healthy in terms of this voltage variation out of bounds error.

I charge to 90% every night.

Cell balancing occurs (to the best of my knowledge) in the upper 90% range, so 98%+
Have you ever charged that high?

yeah - a couple times per month I juice it to 100 for long trips

85% unless road tripping, then 100% night before. We had a trip for an October wedding, and Thanksgiving. That's all that comes to mind in last 3 or 4 months.

Hmmm..ok probably not the case then. I guess it might just be a legit tolerance issue from manufacturing. Ford knows the cost of replacing all these modules, hopefully something gets done to stamp down the failures. I can't imagine they are ok with eating all that cost.

My turn. 😢
Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power on my drive home. Limped home at not more than 2mph on up hills. Used FordPass and had it towed to dealer.
Off course, I’ll be calling them when they open in the morning.
Picked up my truck this morning. It was ready late yesterday afternoon. I OCR’d this from the service invoice in case it helps. Looks like 5 modules updated.
_______
13385 MT242404 3.10 Did not verify any fault lights on at this time.

Scanned for codes and found C0604. Ran oasis and found tsb 24-2404. Reprogrammed pcm, abs, beem, sobdm and gEm2. Cleared codes. Road tested and could not get any fault lights to come back on.
_______

I guess Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced Power can have assorted causes?
Oh, one more thing. I lost all my target charges. Assume it was due to the “reprogramming”.

2024 Ford Lightning F150 Lariat
Hey everybody. Can I join the club?! I’m sicken to read everybody’s trouble with the power train/battery. I have a 2024 Ford Lightning Lariat with only 700 miles on it! Barely had it for 2 weeks and this service light popped up. Thankfully I was taking the truck there that day to get everything installed from when I first bought it. So far the dealership has had it for 4 days and are still “diagnosing” the problem. This is very disheartening since the truck is basically brand new and I was really enjoying the truck. This was probably the best vehicle I have ever driven.

Sorry for this bad luck, a few others have been bitten by the new truck failed bug, hopefully they get to the bottom of the issue and you'll have the truck back soon.

Thank you. They called me a hour ago and said that the reason why my truck is throwing that service light is due to a failed heater/coolant problem to where supposedly the heater is not delivering enough heat to warm the battery up…hence now due to why the powertrain malfunction/reduced power? It makes sense but then it doesn’t make sense.
