Call Ford at (800) 392-3673 and explain your problem and the difficulties you are having with a dealer. They are pretty good at resolving issues like this.

After over a month of the truck in the shop, Ford finally gave me a call today that they've approved the buy back!

Recap:
  • 2/7/24 - Purchased 2023 Lariat
  • 9/30/24 - 10/7/24 - Truck in service due to:
    • When shifted into reverse, all but front parking sensors would go off when they're not supposed to
    • Frunk doesn't open past 6"
    • Some software related open recall
    • Upon picking up the truck, the parking sensor issues still persisted, but only with the driver side rear corner / tailgate one. Whatever I could live with it
  • 12/23/24 - Dropped off at dealership due to battery module failure. Not sure which one, but got the dreaded yellow wrench + reduced power to 57 + can't charge past 60%ish
  • Late Dec - Early Jan - Got in touch with BEV team since no loaners were provided
  • 1/15/25 - Got approved for a rental. Had to be Ford and under $60 per day
  • 1/17/25 - Submitted official request for a buyback as I'd met my state's minimum requirements for a lemon
  • 1/28/25 (Today) - Ford buyback team reached out and informed me of the approval
  • The truck is still currently at the dealership lol
  • TBD with offer timeline and details. Could be as quick as a couple of weeks or as slow as just under a month...
Buyback team member requested some documents such as registration, DL photos, bill of sale, and any receipts of out-of-pocket expenses of repairs and aftermarket add-ons (tint, spray liner, etc). I had just sent them over and hopefully they finalize an offer for me ASAP. Will likely negotiate additional $ since the truck was out for over a month and they couldn't get me into a truck loaner/rental + I've heard folks have success with negotiating the usage as well.

Huge weight off my shoulders and hoping the offer includes a Ford credit towards a new vehicle. I'll be looking to get one of the 2024 F150 Powerboosts that are still on many lots here. Really loved the lightning when it worked, but this headache is just not worth the risk to go with another EV for now.

Hopefully my write-up helps those of you in similar situations!

Call the Ford BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) customer service? 800-392-3673
Not sure if they can offer a loaner deal, usually must be a Ford and no more than $60/day out of Ford, plus gas cost? I think they used to give out 50,000? ford credits as well until all the battery failures were too much!? @TaxmanHog

Sorry to hear that, someone certainly dropped the ball. Ford knows all the needed parts and tools, It should all come as a package, I believe there are only 4 different module packages. I hope the dealer fully explains the excessive delay ...

Mechanic for American Airlines. GSE (ground equipment) 37 years. Worked on everything from Lawn mowers to Boeing 747's.
Got this message yesterday when I went to leave, and now I get a charging fault as well. Dealers in my area are backed up..... great.

Can I drive it still for a day or 2? Is that safe?
Check out post #867 in this thread. I believe if you have a regular code scanner that can clear the DTC's it will charge again. Might still have the wrench and only a certain amount of power but will drive. If I read it correctly. On Page 58

Just spoke with my service rep, the battery array is on back order (sigh). He didn't have the proper part ID to give me but he said they are on backorder until early Feb to Detroit and will be shipped to AZ then so probably will be in my loaner for 2 weeks which I pick up tomorrow. My dealer told me the part doesn’t come from Ford directly but a third party so they have no exact eta. Just guesses
Welp…..if you have been following my saga. Dropped of 1/16. Vehicle diagnostic 1/20, module 7 array 65 failed. Part ordered. Was called 1/24 saying the part had arrived ahead of schedule and would get installed and I’d be on my way by 1/28. I couldn’t be happier

Got a call 1/27 from a distraught rep (who’s not been the problem, he’s been fine) saying the wrong part was sent and they don’t have an eta. Eff me man. Get it together @Ford Motor Company

Well some good news. Finally got my truck back. Dropped off 1/16 for a failed Module 7 cell 65. Im a tad concerned because they got it back to me within one day of getting the part. Not sure if there’s any settling or balancing they need to do but for now it’s driving just fine. Here’s there work order, had some other things done while there. Maybe they had it disassembled and ready to go before the part arrived.

Pay attention to how high you're able to charge to, what is your normal maximum SOC?
If the module is not fully in balance with the rest of the pack, but with in tolerance, the final balancing will take ~21 days.

I’ll take a look tonight. I have a standard range and they charged it to 90 before I picked it up and it was at 215ish I want to say. Should I do anything in particular in those 21 days? Drain to a certain percentage and charge back up?

I wouldn't do anything extraordinary, 215 / .9 = 238 sounds right on track for a warm south west environment
