Hello friends

I like to drive in SPORT mode.

I do not like having to put it into SPORT mode every time I start the truck.

Is there a way to keep it in SPORT as a default setting?

No, but if it was in Sport when you turned it off, you should get asked if you want to stay in sport the next time you start. You have to press “OK” before the message goes away. It’s a pain.

I find that if you don't turn the truck off, you don't have to 'tell' it again.... : )

Welcome to the party. We've been asking for this for years. Fords software devision thought that meant we want Karaoke. So every time you don't make it in time to press okay, just sing along the curse song like the rest of us do.

Unfortunately, due to regulations regarding the traction control system you have to select it every time or push ok to stay in a different mode than normal.

The problem arose when the possibility that someone could inadvertently remain in off-road mode with no TC after a shutdown cycle.

Try 1 pedal mode for easy regen if that's what you like about sport mode.

There are a few users that really want sport all the time but it's just not going to happen.

I find I can easily smoke anyone in normal mode so sport is just a plaything for me.

I prefer the tighter steering and more responsive go pedal.

My Tesla Model Y Performance had a sport mode that I could just set it and forget it. It, too, made the steering tighter and the go pedal more responsive. One of the few things that I miss about that car.

I don’t think it’s a safety issue. I think it’s a Ford issue.

It apparently worked initially but the government didn't like that it could be left in off-road mode permanently. Instead of just requiring off-road mode to be selected each time they just made it where the setting didn't stick for any of them.

Yeah, I heard the reason was about it accidentally being left in off road by someone.... I wonder how we all survived in the old days when things were all manual and things were as you left them every time you started your car. I know it's crazy we all lived.

Last time I checked though, Sport mode didn't equal Off road mode. Surely, they have someone smart enough over there to create a tiny bit of code that checks if its in off road, ask, if its in sports mode, don't ask.

Is it a huge deal... nope... but it too was my first major annoyance after getting my truck. I don't like 1 pedal mode but I really like the pedal mapping, steering mapping and slightly more aggressive regen in sport. For months and months, I played the game of making sure I am concentrating on the dash and ready to press okay, only to get interrupted by someone talking to me and then needing to hunt through menus and a slow display.

I finally gave up and now drive in normal... Will I live, yup, Am I happy that my expensive, state of the art high tech truck won't let me drive it the way I want without the nagging, yup. Will I return the favour and nag Ford about it every chance I can until it's fixed, yup.

Substitute "government" for Lawyers and I'm with you. It worked for a brief wonderful period and then it went away. If the problem is inadvertently leaving it in Off-Road, fine, but don't see any safety need for the other modes. Recently got a 2024 Mach-e and shocked that it stays in whatever mode you last had.
I prefer Sport mode for the additional re-gen that seems more natural to me. Tho I can do 1 pedal, the operation of the throttle isn't very smooth - seems to stick after a stop instead of creep mode. Also we have to shoehorn the Lightning into the garage and again creep mode makes that process flawless.
On the highway with BC or ACC, Sport mode can be a bit jerky in traffic & I'll switch it over to Normal for a smoother ride. Otherwise it's Sport mode for the tighter steering and re-gen.

I don't know if your truck is any different than mine but when starting up my truck, I get about 5 to 10 seconds of fancy ford animations as it boots up, another 5 to 10 seconds of it trying to connect to my phone and launch car play. Then I can press the truck button which takes a few seconds to get to the option screen because it's slow and still booting up, and then a couple more seconds after you press the mode button. As I said, I dealt with it for a while doing exactly as you said but I started hating my truck as I was becoming a slave to it. Now that I leave it in normal and can start my truck and go, and not being stressed about missing the okay so I don't have to wait 30 seconds to get me in my preferred drive mode, I am enjoying my truck much better. Pretty sad, if you ask me.

If you are okay with it, that's great for you... A lot of us are not, and we would like it fixed. If I got a dime for how many times I have seen this exact topic come up from new owners, I would be able to buy another lightning.

Oh, he has been plenty vocal on his dislike of this situation. LOL

My guess is that out of the 12 stages of loss he has reached the acceptance stage.

It wasn't "initially" it was a random software update that had a bug where if you changed modes it stayed in that mode even following a shut down. Because this allows you to stay in off-road mode with traction control off, it was fixed. We need an option that specifically lets us stay in sport.
