Trump order freezes funding for Illinois EV charging network, raises questions about other clean energy projects

EVs and their chargers appear to be a prime target of Trump’s “Unleashing American Energy” executive order, but they are by no means the only Illinois clean energy projects that could be in for a bumpy ride as the president takes bold steps to reverse the ambitious clean energy policies of his predecessor.

The executive order pauses funds coming from President Joe Biden’s signature climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act, including incentives for solar and wind projects and a federal tax credit of up to $7,500 for EV buyers.

I glanced through the Executive Order. I don't see anything about the $7500 tax incentive. I don't think he has the authority to stop that. Only Congress can. Which they will easily do through reconciliation. Which is how it was passed to begin with. But any sales made up until it's rescinded should qualify for it.

Again,

Just foolishness. The EV decisions by some of these folks is just perplexing. The wheels of progress being slowed by lack of vision. So frustrating. Good news is the vehicles are as advertised and will save us all money over time. The monthly impact to our budget since EV acquisition has been substantial. Plus, never standing out in the cold to pump gas again is quite nice.

This is what I am thinking. Get rid of any “mandated” fine. But don’t stop the progress towards EV’s or else a certain country who more or less is already on top will continue to be on top.

fossil fuel subsidies range anywhere from 1,1 trillion to $7,000,000,000,000.00 depending on which measurement you use. Imagine how oil companies would react if the same freeze was put on the fossil fuel subsidies?

The actual "executive" order actually paused the disbursement of those funds, so existing signed and started contracts would be breached by the Feds if actually enacted as written. Just unknown how crazy it could become, but it could stop checks going out to everyone, at least until the courts determined what authority is actually available to the President. Only Congress has that power we thought ...

Electricity generation also gets substantial subsidies, both renewable and non-renewable. There's no free lunches.

Impoundment Act kind of forbids this and requires the executive to spend the money as allocated by congress. But since when does the current admin care about actually following the law?
The current administration is going to push the envelope as much as they can get away with in order to adopt "their" policies, and will make you beat them in court. This is why getting "their" judges in place is so important for them.

That said I don't really care for some of the things that the "other guys" were advocating for either. What's a centrist to do?

That's a bipartisan problem. The previous administration didn't follow laws either.

Again, both parties do this. The only people that don't like it is the party that isn't in power.

Yes, and also I think it's important to recognize that while both parties have broken the law that's where the similarities end on a range of problems. Each party has their own motivations that may help or hurt you depending on your socio-economic status.

I'm pointing this out here because I have seen this fact get tossed out there plenty of times in good faith and in bad (and I always assume it's in good faith unless shown otherwise). And every time it devolves into a sentiment of "Both parties are the same." And they are not the same.
