I was playing with the truck in an empty parking lot in the snow. I turned off traction control, but it still engaged and the icon flashed on the dash. I did have one pedal drive on and was in normal mode. What is the secret to turning traction control completely off?

I haven’t tried it in my Lightning, but if it’s like my Mach-E it won’t stay off. There was a TSB for it, 24-2289, but Ford rescinded it. I’m still waiting for a fix.

I turned off traction and stability control during a snow a couple weeks ago. It's borderline undrivable. A wide open parking lot is definitely the place to practice.

What about going into off-road mode - does that turn down or completely turn off the traction and controls?

Be careful playing around with massive horsepower and nanny controls turned off.

Agreed. I will note that after my donut session in an empty parking lot, a noise appeared in the headliner above the rear seat. Others in this forum have reported it. Sounds like a wiring harness came loose and is hitting the headliner when i go over bumps.

As @gbuydos said, you can turn it off by pressing and holding the traction control for a number of seconds.

Of course you need to be careful driving like this as others have said. Fun to play with for a couple of minutes, and yes she'll squawk all 4 tires so make sure you have a hold on the reins.

It will reset to ON on the next restart.

That may not be a wiring harness. It is apiece of the accordion seal on each side of the sunroof. Carefully open the sunroof liner and stick your hand gently towards the back. Retrieve the piece and reinstall it. Do not open the liner all the way back. It has happened to me couple times.

From the manual:

OFF-ROAD
For driving on rough uneven terrain. This mode optimizes accelerator pedal response to give you more control over your vehicle when traversing off-road obstacles. Traction control and stability control settings are optimized, and the rear electronic differential is automatically engaged to enhance vehicle performance in off-road environments. Use this mode when driving through sand, loose gravel, mud, or mixed off-road terrain.

Also, do not drive in this mode at speed, especially on hard roads. It will reduce traction control on slippery roads, especially the faster you go. It is intended for low speed, low traction situations.
