Tesla has reduced prices. So has Ford. And they both will again too.

But really, what are you buying for? A $40k pro was a genuinely good deal. An $80k Lariat is a lifestyle choice. There is no rational economic or environmental justification for one.

Used lightnings are already selling below MSRP, and they've only made 0.5% of the total production run so far. There will be low mileage examples on the used market for 30% below sticker 18-24 months from now. So I guess I'm waiting for you to get tired of yours?

If EVs are going to be $80,000 in 2022 dollars in perpetuity there won't be CARB states and EV mandates anymore because politicians that maintain those mandates will lose in landslides. EV trucks will get cheaper. By a LOT. (They might not be 400+HP high performance cruisers though, just like the Chevy Bolt isn't a Tesla)
Show me the used Lightnings selling below MSRP, not just one random anomaly. I agree 2 years from now they will be, but what 2 year old vehicle doesn’t? Maybe a few limited builds. But EV trucks are and will be cheaper than $80k, I agree there. New and improved battery tech and more competition will do that.

It sounds like we basically agree so I don't see a reason to argue with you.

The point is that throwing more cash than you planned to spend on a truck so you can have it right now under the assumption that if you don't act fast things will only get more expensive is terrible advice. These trucks are currently highly desirable and limited in quantity. At least one of those things is definitely going to change soon. The only reason to spend a lot on one now is if you feel the need to be one of the first to have one. You can absolutely have one for less money if you're patient.

Recent model Teslas still sell for near-new prices (checking Craigslist in my area, other than the 2 lowest cost listings, a 3 year old Model 3 SR+ sells for $7k under new price). When demand outstrips supply to such an insane degree, the market does this. I have a feeling the first few EV pickups will follow this trend (Rivian, Hummer EV, Lightning) given the lack of competition, or supply of said competition even if it is available. I was quite excited to reserve a Lightning because I figured even if I didn't like it, I'd be able to get almost all my money back in resale and buy something else in a couple years (e.g. Cybertruck, if it would be available by then).

Looks like they are leaning more into the WEEK of the 17th than the 17th itself. Though "Early" I dont think can be stretched into Wed.

That's how anyone should read Ford describing something "the week of the 17th"

I'm hoping it's today

If I've learned anything from this process to date no one knows anything especially dealers. Half of them don't read weekly bulletins. There were MY22 orders that never got scheduled because of them not adding option deletes to orders. It's crazy....

Yah I have heard from others where their dealer never checked VVR showing - Clean - Unscheduled status and/or didn't know how to change equipment / deletions.

That's disheartening, I've never done a custom order so little details like that are good to know incase my dealer isn't on top of their game. It's a shame we can't trust someone to do the job they are being paid to do.

I think the dealer model has changed so much since the events of 2020. I believe dealers got so used to the dealer model of the past of full lots and pushing customers out the door with a smile and a payday. Now it's long play orders with anxious customers dealing with supply constraints and no motivation for salesman to help because at the end of the day the vehicles get ordered and they're getting paid regardless of how much effort they put in. 2020 destroyed their business model and they refuse to change hence Ford forcing their hand with Model E.

Don't forget to check the Ford website every 10 minutes! You will be able to order before the email shows up... but nobody can say exactly when that will be.

I fully agree - the dealer model has changed dramatically since the pandemic hit.

Dealers are no longer motivated to make a sale by moving a vehicle that was costing them money sitting on the lot....

They now seem to have low morale and poor attitudes these days since there is not many vehicles to choose from any more.
