I'm not sure I want to write a check for a truck with such a major CSP open. Dealer seems to think it will not be resolved before my delivery.

From the procedures:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Federal law prohibits selling motor vehicle parts or components that are
under safety, compliance, or emissions recall. Unless a part is requested to be returned to Ford,
all parts replaced under this FSA must be scrapped in accordance with all applicable local, state
and federal environmental protection and hazardous material regulations. Refer to the Parts
Retention, Return, & Scrapping section of the FSA dealer bulletin for further information.

Right, but the two open CSPs aren't recalls. The trucks can't be sold with the ongoing recalls still open, but the regs don't prevent any sales when a CSP is open.

It just depends on if you “love this truck” or not. If this is the truck for you then yes. Ford has to make it all right or they will be doing a Bolt style replacement after lawyers get involved later in life.

So I am not as concerned about it at this point. And the fact that the BEV team is proactively reaching out to have modules replaced speaks wonders to Fords commitment to make sure the initial mass EV fleets don’t become their Pintos of the 2020’s.

If you just want to have an electric truck as your next truck and can wait, waiting might be the best option for you, especially with new battery tech on the horizon.

Having my Lightning for 6-weeks, I can tell you it is not world changing in daily life and if you are a tech nerd for data and stuff, you will be disappointed. If you like a solid truck that has some bugs and quirks Ford is fixing, you will like it a lot. I love that I am getting almost the same efficiency out of it as my PHEV Escape got on my commute and within 0.5m/kwh combined average for commute and highway. This allowed me to downgrade from two vehicles to a single EV.

Did this CSP effect every Lightning? I haven't seen anything in the app.

Yes pretty much every truck, including those coming off the assembly line right now.

Hopefully the OTA coming in the fourth QTR will resolve 96% of the trucks with 4% probably having a battery module needing a swap.

I'm patiently waiting for that OTA

I find it interesting that your dealer didn’t commit to applying this CSP before delivery. It’s likely the sales department doesn’t understand it.

it is a small dealer with only a couple mechanics, one of whom mostly does diesel which is why I worry taking delivery and then having to wait for them to learn how to replace a battery module if I'm part of the lucky 4%.

Accepted my first and second truck before the CSP came out…so….will let you know if either truck spontaneously combusts.

FWIW, I’m still on the hook for letting some friends know if my Tesla catches fire. They’ve been waiting for 7 years now…

I thought the delays for trucks built in end of July and August were because they were applying this CSP. Are you suggesting that the CSP may not have been applied then? What were we all waiting for then?

We've been grasping at straws for weeks as to the root cause of the extensive delay, four or five reasons, who knows for sure, but the trucks rolling though the 9/11 BW are seeing the CSP alert.

Understood. Hopefully all you need are the updates. That shouldn’t be foreign to them.

What's "a major CSP"? Less than 4% of all trucks have a bad module(s), and Ford replaces them.

I wouldn't hesitate to take delivery.

And dealer doesn't know because they have a reading comprehension problem. They can apply the update before delivery, and then they will know if you have a bad module(s). Tell them to go read the paperwork on this...

I'm going to do everything I can to get that resolved before driving off the lot. My local dealer sells in a 'one horse town' and from what I've learned so far has only one mechanic that knows anything about EVs (he owns a MME). You can bet I'll become his best friend.
