I'm waiting for the "official" one Ford and Tesla support.

All these don't currently work with the networks.

Just curious, respectfully, why you jumped at buying this?

Received my NACS to CCs adapter today, and this thing is solid! The build quality is great. Can't wait for the network to open.

Just curious. Will it work with AC chargers as well?

Someone posted the manual in another thread, it explicitly states not compatible with AC charging.

Patiently waiting for mine. I'd rather wait now than wait after the network opens up.

I regularly drive across a couple of CCS charging deserts that have NACS Superchargers, and would prefer not to wait for Ford (or A2Z) to ship a charger.

Yes, it's probably unnecessary - just like the small pile of adapters that have never made it out of the frunk. But I don't regret having those, either.

Do you know why not? Is it a mechanical thing? Like when truck knows something is hooked up to DC port automatic ignores AC?

If there is an adapter that works with destination chargers as well, I would definitely go for that.

Yes, it is certified to work. They have an NDA in place but you can infer they have the okay from Tesla. A special handshake is not possible, as these devices are simply electrical connectors, they don't contain software. I wanted to be early getting the adapter as I road trip frequently, and when the network opens in February and the Ford adapter is actually released the backlog is going to be huge. I have zero concerns about this device not working.

Sadly I would not infer anything with my car🤷‍♂️. Tesla if they approve it, would state it, similar to the Apple MFI program.

The lack of saying who approved it is such a red flag to me.

No going to risk damage and voiding my truck’s warranty over a third-party DCFC adaptor.

No adaptor will be able to do both. The AC and DC switching is done inside the car on a Tesla. The AC and DC pins are separate on CCS. You would have AC on the DC pins during level 2 charging and DC on the AC pins during fast charging.

Not getting this. Can you dumb it down a little more. My understanding is there is nothing smart about the adapter. It is just making a connection from one pin on the Tesla side to another on the Ford side. Tesla side is the same for both type adapters (L2 and DCFC). AC adapters have only J1772 (AC) connection on Ford side and this A2Z has both AC and DC connection on Ford side. So if a manufacturer make the DC connection on Ford side removable, how would the truck know the difference between that and a destination adapter?

If that is a mechanically reliable solution long term is a different issue. why wouldn't it work theoretically?

It is approved by Tesla. This adapter situation is no different than the current CCS to NACS situation. I've used myriad adapters with never a problem. But, you do what you re comfortable with.

He's saying that the adapter doesn't have AC pins. The only pins active in a CCS charger in the J1772 part of the adapter are communication pins. The AC pins are absent.

To do both, the adapter would have to have a switch built into it that was capable of distinguishing between AC and DC and switching to the right pins otherwise. It would be significantly more complex (and open to doing damage to the vehicle). In fact, the only CCS-style plug I'm aware of that has both is the Ford Charge Station Pro, and its DC pins are designed only to take power out in V2H situations.

I am waiting for my adapter to ship from A2Z which is estimated to be the beginning of February. As OP said, A2Z says it will work on the supercharger network and NDAs disallow OEM disclosure. I dont think Tesla would say “this is our adapter” more like “yea, we will allow you to use this adapter. But here is our official one.” Which for all we know, A2Z’s manufacturer is the same Tesla will use for their “official” adapter.

Did they guarantee it would work when the network opens up? What happens if Tesla/Ford release an adapter that requires a certain handshake and this A2Z one doesn't work?
I would imagine the handshake would be handled by Fords PnC capability, I doubt the handshake occurs in the adapter itself.

All the wires are there and I would think they communicate via CP/PP.

That said, I’m waiting for an official one myself. Not looking to turn myself into fried chicken messing around with 400V+ and 400A+
