IF (and that's a big if) you feel the need to buy an extended warranty, always buy from the manufacturer and never from a third party. You can buy the Ford extended warranty online directly from Ford and also from a dealership other than where you purchase the vehicle.
Also remember that the price is negotiable.

Is it a gamble or is it insurance? I am one of those that typically gets the Ford extended warranty. I drive a lot of miles and keep vehicles for many years and it has consistently paid itself off, plus some. I have only purchased the Ford version, previously bought through Flood. At the time, they were the cheapest out there and significantly cheaper than what the dealer quoted. Pissed off the dealer up-sell person when I said that I could get the same product for less cost....then told her how much less.

I like the Ford Protect because it is seamless when needing warranty work...it shows up in the dealership system. There are so many electronic systems and subsystems that can go bad and the cost to replace even simple items can become very expensive.

Another item to consider is that parts are available for whatever breaks. I have family members that buy every extended warranty the slime ball salesman can throw their way. Recently an item they had broke and the warranty company told them sorry, we wonā€™t fix it, we will pro rate the warranty and refund you the remaining. They were happy that they got $$ back but didnt understand they got scammed from the beginning and the warranty company walked away with their $$ for providing no service!
Wow that's a load of BS.

If you typically get the Ford extended warranty, you should be able to tell us if it was worth it or not based on your past experiences - is the payout minus the cost a positive or negative number? Iā€™m sure many here would find the data helpful.

I consider it a gamble. Insurance is to protect against life-ruining events that you may not otherwise be able to financially survive. There will always be stories of people whose experience with an extended warranty has benefited them and "paid for itself" but the math isn't on your side. The house almost always wins. I don't buy extended warranties but I still play the lottery from time to time, so clearly I'm not always driven by the math though.

With that in mind, there is more to the equation than simply whether it is likely to financially benefit you. Some people take comfort in knowing their finances will be relatively stable across the life of a vehicle, and that is worth something to them. This intangible is valued differently for everyone which is why threads like this exist. :)

I have done this on the last two vehicles, because for the one before that, I had to replace the MyFord Touch APIM, and it was over $900 out of pocket. After that, I am willing to gamble a bit on ESP. I know from using it once on the gf's vehicle, as soon as the local dealer sees on the computer that ESP is there, they immediately stop talking about the cost of a covered repair and just say "oh, never mind."

One thing to think about with this decision as well - if you buy FordProtect through a dealer (including the online ones), you can have it financed at 0% for 12 months, which makes it a lot easier to handle for some people. Since you're doing it in the first 12 months anyway, it's not like that 12 month timeframe changes your coverage, assuming you don't go past 36,000 miles in that time, so spreading it out doesn't "hurt you" in that way.

Also, don't forget about FordPass Rewards Points ( FordPass Rewards ). 200 of them are worth $1, you get 22,000 for a BEV purchase with modem activation (so $110), and you can use them at a dealer towards, among other things, an ESP purchase... Granger explicitly mentioned this at Ford Protect ESP at $50 Over Dealer Cost from Granger Ford | MachEforum - Ford Mustang Mach-E Forum, News, Owners, Discussions .

It depends on the cost of the ESP. For my GT350 it was over $10k. Would much rather pay that $900!

The first new car I bought back in the mid-80s, I paid for the extended warranty. Fast forward several years and I needed to use it..." sorry, that company went out of business, here is what it is going to cost you to make that repair." Never bought an extended warranty again.
There is a world of difference between Ford's extended warranty and 3rd party extended warranties (which are mostly ripoffs).

True, Ziegler has their lightning pricing up and 8/100k with a $200 deductible is less at $1,325.

Didnā€™t see it posted, but for those interested hereā€™s whatā€™s covered on the ev specific plan: https://www.lombardfordwarrantys.com/resources/pdfs/FordProtect_PremiumCARE_Electric_Brochure.pdf
Ziegler has had lightning up for a bit. Canā€™t imagine my dealer matching those. The reason i started this post, was that I never get extended warranties. Kept my 05 for 16 years. Couple of springs, tranny rebuilt, rear dif went. Not bad for 250k miles.

I have a foreign car, low miles, out of factory warranty and twice 18 months significant electrical problems. = $$$

I wonder how long I would keep this lightning. Think about how we replace phones and pcā€™s - even if you stretch it out - donā€™t know but 1% who keep phone or same pc 5+ years because electronics Stop working, but then again I have rooftop solar components that come with 25 year warranty exposed to extreme temp and elements.

zieglers prices make it attractive full/ slightly discounted from dealer, not so much.

appreciate the comments, and generally Iā€™m on the side of ā€œhouse winsā€ - why do you think you get so many calls about your extended warranty. Funny this week alone I got 5 mailings from dif companies about my coverage expiring, šŸ™ˆ šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø Of course I called them all and took out 5 warranties.

I get the premium Ford warranty for every car, but I also have a dealer that only charges me $1 over the dealer's cost. I find it to be more about piece of mind if anything happens form the road. So paying $2k today is better than paying more down the road.

I agree - and I typically don't buy them, but did for my explorer and in this instance I'm leaning toward purchasing. I'm planning on keeping for a while 5-8 yrs so having the piece of mind for a first gen might be worth it.

Also for me it's also about the piece of mine having the rental car coverage while it's out of commission too, I don't put on a ton of miles but I need to have a car to get to work and the kids school. I gather many of the potential issues will not necessarily be solved in a single work day due to the technical nature of the electronics and parts availability.

I bought it for my explorer from flood and I've recouped about 3/4ths of the cost with two camera replacements which were out of warranty.
