People are doing this all over the place with Tesla's. I don't understand why this upsets people. The truck was advertised at 40k and we're all paying 80+....it's the same system repeating itself.

Wow, never thought my Lightning would appreciate - usually cars are depreciatiative assets.

The question is will they find someone to pay that much. They can ask whatever they want, doesn't mean someone will pay that.

you DON'T think a 75,000 dollar mark up is a "don't hate the player"....? ;)
Just call me unsympathetic. Nobody needs a Lightning, and nobody needs one of the first in production. It's just something we all want. So why shouldn't the early ones go to whoever's willing to pay the most? And if a middleman helps coordinate that, then so be it.

They still are, did you see the post where someone wanted to trade in his Rivian and was offered $75k by the dealer?

Some of these prices or even auctions are usually being purchased by people who will make that money back quickly ….. paying market adjustment is not a big deal to them. They can take the loss when trading in or selling. Dealers always win like a casino.

When I went to pick up my Lightning on Friday the dealership offered me 25k to not take it and give it up to them. Then they asked me 5 times if I was going to sell it or keep it. I almost feel bad for them, their lot was EMPTY of new cars. Times are tough for them.

I am 100% moral apposed to flipping anything without first adding value to it. However if someone offered me 150k for my Lightning my moral righteousness might just melt away.

FINALLY!

You just don’t understand. I’ve been looking for this exact car for MONTHS. This isn’t just any white on black transit. It’s Frozen White. There’s only so many made in the Frozen white. And to get it in Xl trim without the side windows?!? You just don’t get it my friend. I could easily flip this on bring a trailer for at least $150,000.

If it makes you feel any better, and you qualify for just the federal tax credit, the dealer offer is only $17,500 to you. Plus, that $25,000 is (probably) fully taxable. I think my checkbook might jump right in and think it's a $115,000 offer on the Lariat ER I ordered, though.
