I would be curious if any commercially available EVSEs have a digital display with an ammeter. If we had EVSE devices that could simply detect the maximum Breaker amperage of a circuit, we'd have this licked - but I don't think that technology is advanced enough....yet. Right now, you have to KNOW the circuit's breaker/wiring capacity and use the device that does not expect to draw more amperage than that, or to have an ADJUSTABLE EVSE that provides the ability to 'dial down' the maximum amperage it will try to draw...
I've just ordered one of these today, since the Ford Mobile Charger is FIXED at/about 30amps. Now, whether the Ford EVSE is a CONTINUOUS 30amps draw, or slightly less, is something for someone who already has one to check out. I'm not sure you could really know the amperage unless you apply a CLAMP METER to the EVSE wire between the Charger body and the Outlet.
I'll give this a try when I get my truck soon, but for the time being, I wanted another way to 'lower' that 240v draw, just in case. I do have a 20amp 240v outlet in my garage, which my KIA PHEV uses with a 16amp 240v EVSE, but I would not be able to use the Ford charger since it would certainly kick the breaker quickly.
Also, when camping, having a 50amp 240v outlet is IDEAL, but they are not at every campground, or even every campsite. I know of one campground we love which has TWO 30amp 120v common RV outlets, but not the 50amp, etc.
