Has anyone used Plug and Charge? It won't activate in my app, just shows this error, is this feature not enabled or something? I am not even really sure who to approach to resolve this issue, I would think my dealer would be really confused at something not working in the app?

I put all of the credit card details in, etc. and charging does work, but not plug and charge.

I've used it a dozen times and only had an issue once. I think you need to call the Ford EV hotline.

It was originally working for me, but I disabled it since my two road trips made the $4.99/month EA Pass+ plan worth it. Based on my tech support call to EA they said, at least as of that time a couple weeks back, I couldn't us the EA Pass + w/ Ford's plug and charge.

Oh, interesting. That's news to me. I got the Pass+ before I went on my roadtrip last week. I hadn't even thought about it but with the P+C sessions my receipt comes directly from Ford and it doesn't show up in my EA app. The pricing is all wonky so I can't even tell what rate I'm getting, it's all over the map, from 14 cents to 45 cents per kWh for the different charging sessions. The Ford receipt doesn't have any itemized details about the cost, just total kWh and total price. In the EA app they break down all the costs. It looks like almost all of my sessions (after my free 250kWh ran out) were under 20 cents per kWh so I'm not sure what I'm actually getting charged.

From the Mach-E forum

There is no way to use Plug and Charge with an EA account. Period.
If you want to get EA's Pass+ account, you must activate the charger with the EA app, then plug in.

They mentioned removing the P&C option from the app and using the above method.

Well, that's stupid. Are we getting a better rate via Ford at least?

I believe they are testing out a partnership to get better rates but from reading the Mach-E forum, it seem EA+ is the better route

EA charges 43 cents per kWh plus tax in most states. With Pass+ it's 31 cents plus tax.

In about 10 states they are prohibited from charging by the kWh, and have to charge by the minute, which works out to about 1/2 the per kWh cost when charging to 80%. That cost is 32 cents plus tax, or 24 cents plus tax with Pass+.

You can see which states charge which way here - https://www.electrifyamerica.com/pricing/

Pass+ is $4 per month. Activate and immediately downgrade, and it takes effect in 30 days. Breakeven is by 2nd or 3rd charge.

To use an EA account to charge, activate charger with app, then plug in.

As to using Plug and Charge, or the FordPass to charge (similar method to EA method above), you get no discount. Ford is testing a plan that for $50 a year provides the EA discount. It will be rolled put when testing is complete. While $4 x 12 = $48 and that's close to $50, if you don't use fast charging monthly you would spend more money with the future Ford plan, but get the advantage of Plug and Charge.

Ford provides less data than EA. EA allows you to download data, Ford does not.

If Plug and Charge is not enabling, go to Ford.com and log into your Ford Account, then go to Connected Services, Manage Services, Blue Oval Charge Network, Manage, and make sure it shows "Active" and shows you have a credit card attached. I'd not, you'll end to enter a credit card. Once it is active, try to enable Plug and Charge in the app. If it won't enable, reboot phone and try again. If it still won't enable, contact a Guide via the app, it is a Ford server issue. Or, setup account on different phone, same credentials, and try there.

Currently no - you are paying full (non-member) price. Ford looked at doing a $50/yr. membership with EA, but as far as I know they have stopped that for now.

I have left plug and charge turned on for our Mach-e in case my wife needs it while out and about, but always buy a month of EA+ when we travel anywhere. She is just less comfortable with the apps than I am. As long as you activate the charger from the app first, before plugging in, it goes through your EA account and not Ford.

I worry what is going to happen as EV ownership expands and less tech savvy folks have to deal with charging.

As I mentioned, Ford is testing the $50 a year plan right now. Expect a rollout soon IF the testing goes well.

As far as issues down the road, the reality is that a good number of EV owners are totally clueless. People buy vehicles for $40K, $50K, $60K, $90K, and they have no idea what they are doing. They apparently don't read, don't ask questions of their dealerships (some that couldn't answer them), don't go onto sites like Ford.com to research, they just GO. I've encountered many at the chargers, all makes, that have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Sad.

Just to be clear….it is not necessary to disable P&C in order to use EA at its member rate. You just need to activate the charge session via the EA app before plugging in.

I'm glad you explained this again, I just setup my EA account and funded it for future charging sessions, I turned off the P&C as precaution until I get my routines established.

The mass adoption of EVs is going to be painful for the next several years for many years. We are going about teaching something new to the public that has the attention span of a fast food commercial.

The current charging infrastructure can be navigated in most place with some planning and thought. Unfortunately we are bringing folks in who are used to cruising down the road and not giving it all a second thought--stopping whenever the low gas light comes on or the needle gets close to E. Until there are chargers on every street corner, you can't do that with an EV.

Some are clueless, but can be taught...we can help make it easier with plug-n-charge, easy to use apps, vehicle navigation, etc.

Some are just hopeless and it is going to take some personal effort to change their mindset.
