Add in a fourth type...those that wanted the toys included with the ER, like the moon roof and other 'options'. I could have easily made do with the SR for my driving habits but wanted the upgrade for other features.

Moon roof only comes with ER? I thought it was with Lariat and Platinum trims, regardless of battery. Ford sure does know how to grab your money.

On the Lariat, the ER battery comes as part o the 511a package ($11,500, not a bad value honestly)

I have a XLT SR and have ZERO regrets not getting the ER battery for $19500. Most of my daily travel is below 200 miles. When I do exceed my range, I will plan my routes accordingly. ( hotels with chargers and bathroom/food breaks at fast chargers). LOVE my Lightning.

I'm not sure where the exact point is that the SR/ER power curves diverge, but it's probably 40-60mph, and up until that point, they're basically identical, but the SR is lighter.

So, the difference is probably mostly meaningful in highway passing and such.
0-60 both are within .5 sec of each other. 60+ ER pulls away

Right.

I'd like to see them both tested same day, same conditions, same equipment, because I wouldn't be surprised if the 0-60 is even closer than that, and Ford lists it as 0.5s for marketing purposes.

I struggled between SR and ER back in February 2022 when it was my time to place the order. I ended up going with the Lariat ER for the following reasons:

- I live in a northern climate and assumed cold weather would drastically impact range.​
- First EV. I wanted the buffer.​
- Battery degradation. Dropping a few percent from 320 miles is much less impactful than dropping from 230 miles.​
- Resale​
- Massachusetts qualifies only the ER versions for a $7500 rebate due to the higher GVWR.​
- More bells and whistles in the Lariat ER package vs. the XLT I was considering at the time.​

I have no regrets. However, I will admit that based on my driving since September I've only encountered one or two situations where I would have had to stop and charge with a SR that I didn't have to with the ER version.

No regrets with my SR Lariat. I drive 7 miles to work and charge to 90 every few nights, 100 when i have a trip more than 60 miles the next day which is maybe twice a month. I haven't had to stop to charge yet for my trips to Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego counties. The ER was out of my price range but if it wasn't i would have bought one for the extra range only, I didn't want a sun roof forced on me.
I drive not slow but not to fast and get 2.4 to 3.0 to work.


EDIT : Now with the Telsa adapter double for sure no regrets and I don't have to worry about a sun roof leaking one day that I would never have opened and have the shade closed at all times.

Now in the summer months I'm getting 3.4-4.4 driving the side roads slow.
So slow I have to pull to the side if by chance a car gets behind me at 4am, People really drive fast on the way to work.

Yeah, at a stoplight, it's going to be "who pushed the pedal first by a fraction of a second?"

That's why I'd like to see with real timing equipment that's based on when the truck moves to eliminate the reaction time difference.

There’s another aspect that is not considered by many, especially if you’re not planning to keep the truck long-term. Battery life/degradation is a function of charge cycles. The SR requires more charge cycles per distance travelled than an ER. So you’ll get more miles/years from an ER before reaching the 70% battery capacity point. All else being equal, the additional miles in % should equate to the battery size ratio.

I have an XLT SR. Yes, I would like to have the ER battery. But I wasn't ready to spend an extra $20,000 for an XLT ER or an extra $23,000 for a Lariat ER. So I choose to live with the limitation of the SR.

The only time I've had an issue with the SR range has been trips from my house to Kansas City. There is a 196 mile gap before I get to a DCFC. Nice weather driving to KC isn't a problem. Nice weather driving home (assuming I can get a 90% charge at the DCFC on the way out of town) is right down to the minimums and that means driving below the speed limit all the way home. Otherwise I end up with an hour of L2 charging midway on the trip. Winter trips or towing anything to KC in the Lightning are not an option.

When it comes to "why did i want a Ford Lightning?" the 0-60 time was not even a thought that crossed my mind. So I agree who cares about .5 sec. I need a mulch carrier!

ER is great up top. Pulls hard to triple digits.

I love my SR Lariat.

Much rather would have preferred the SR XLT since it's just a commuter vehicle.

Very happy with my SR.

Since I never tow, haul nor speed over 45MPH, I am getting way more range than EPA stated.

Also, living in a year round warm climate (like today's hot and sunny weather), helps with range.

Even mid December in So Calif I am getting 15% over EPA range (260-275 miles) per 100% charge.

That is remarkable. My 90% value with my ER is typically 220 miles.
