I am showing 200 mile range in my ER in the cold at 100% charge. SR would be pretty bad range, just food for thought.

To those that have been driving a SR truck for a while, have you ever needed those extra 80 miles? I have an XLT reserved and I'm having a tough time justifying the massive jump in price.
In reality from some reports it’s only 56 miles different at 70mph. I was more than happy to save the $34,000 difference because of the additional packages I would need to pay for. Just love the PRO. Not missing much. Great included features in the PRO.

I bought a standard range and returned it when a winter storm almost left us stranded and third party chargers were *AWFUL*.
Went back, got the ER, and have never once regretted it.

No regrets with my SR Lariat. I drive 7 miles to work and charge to 90 every few nights, 100 when i have a trip more than 60 miles the next day which is maybe twice a month. I haven't had to stop to charge yet for my trips to Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego counties. The ER was out of my price range but if it wasn't i would have bought one for the extra range only, I didn't want a sun roof forced on me.
I drive not slow but not to fast and get 2.4 to 3.0 to work.

EDIT : Now with the Telsa adapter double for sure no regrets and I don't have to worry about a sun roof leaking one day that i would never have opened and have the shade closed at all times.

Now in the summer months I'm getting 3.4-4.4 driving the side roads slow.
So slow I have to pull to the side if by chance a car gets behind me at 4am, People really drive fast on the way to work.

sw engineering manager,
Since this was first posted, I have towed my boat longer distances with my SR Pro. Not ideal, but way less of an issue now that the Fords can use Tesla Superchargers.

Absolutely no regrets for shorter distance towing or any other use cases.

My Lariat SR was a no-brainer for me. If I think I might need DCFC, I drive ICE.

Our ER Lariat is perfect for our needs. Anything less would not have been as nice for us. We bought a 2023 Lariat ER with power running boards, Max Tow and console safe 10 months ago. it doesn’t have one board scale but for us that’s not an issue. We bought it after the July 2023 price decrease and when Ford offered a $7,500 rebate on the Lariat. Negotiated a $2,500 dealer discount and had a $750 PCO. Then collected the $7,500 tax credit with 2023 tax filing.

We have not ‘towed but the extra cooling with max tow we feel is an advantage in hot Florida.

The power running boards make it easy for my vertically challenged wife and our dogs to get into and out of the truck.

The console safe stores an additional programmed key fob in a faraday bag locked in the truck for emergencies.

The ER battery makes it possible to travel the 125 miles to and from our cabin with zero range anxiety even if we start with 50% charge. Plus when we arrive at our cabin the 30 amp 240v output can power our cabin during the many power outages.

Im ok with it, I couldn't afford the price jump. Sure would have been nice though.

Never missed it. Its just not a big enough jump to make a practical difference unless you regularly need to travel 200-250 real world miles and no more. After that, a stop is a stop and an extra 5-7 minutes while already charging won't change much.

From Los Angeles I can't make Vegas. On paper the ER can, but in reality you'd be showing up to the strip empty with few options to charge. So you end up stopping anyway. Heading up to Sacramento I stop twice. Maybe I could stop once with an ER, but if DC fast chagrining only to 80%, again its not practical because you're showing up empty. So even then its two stops. Somewhere it makes sense having the extra 30%, but not for me.

caveat - I charge at home. If I didn't have that, I'd want the biggest battery possible.

Having had both, I was perfectly fine with SR. The deal on the ER was too good though and I traded in my SR for an ER. The area I do enjoy the extra range is there is more usable range between 15%-80% (where I keep my truck most of the time). The biggest areas I see the benefit are cold weather, and extra range on longer trips between DCFC stations.

Regrets of not getting ER back in 22 due to the terrain I drive. Mountain driving up hill, cold weather and towing are big reasons I'm for the ER. Still Love the Truck but would happily trade in my LSR for a Flash just for the ER battery.

We've been happy with the SR, and glad we didn't shell out the extra for the ER.

The occasional long trip has been fine and the odd need to tow a trailer hasn't been an issue (never did a long trip with a trailer, though with a trailer the extra range the ER provides would be less than 50 miles).

Mind you, prior to the Lightning's arrival, all our EV driving was in my Focus Electric, with its 100 or so mile range. Nothing like learning to overcome range anxiety with that to leave you with no fears in the Lightning with "just" an SR battery. 😉

Similar story here, except my pro was bought back by ford so it forced my hand. I likely would have got another standard range if the discounts and incentives weren't so good on the extended range. Towing is the biggest benefit for me. When I take my boat to the mountains I used to barely make it on one charge. Now with the ER I make it easily. Also when random people ask you the range they normally respond with "that's pretty good" to the ER numbers vs "hmm" to the SR numbers.

If I could go back in time, I would definitely get the ER.
Occasionally, I’ll need to slow down to about 40 miles an hour to get to my destination without another charging stop. The truck has less than 20,000 miles on it, however, over time, this may become somewhat of a problem, and could limit the usefulness of the truck.
That being said, I absolutely love the truck, and it fits my needs 99% of the time. The rare occasions I take it out of town, are the only times I regret not getting the extended range. Had I been more patient, I could’ve picked up an ER for the price of my standard range. Next ev, I will be a little more patient, and get the biggest battery available.
