Solution Fix For: "This Trip" Not Resetting Miles / Time

Apologies if everyone already knew the fix for this lol but I hadn’t seen it posted yet. I’ve owned the truck for a couple months and about 3k miles. The “This Trip” screen on the gauge cluster seemed to reset kind of randomly. Some of the time the miles and time would be at 0 when I started up for a new trip, sometimes there would be miles or time or both from a previous trip.

The fix: I have found that if I hold down the brake pedal while shutting off the truck, on the next startup This Trip is zeroed out, every time.

I was probably randomly holding the brake, or not, when I shut down (depending on how I was parked, how long I sat before shutting down, etc). Now that I’ve made a conscious effort to hold the brake at shutdown, it’s worked flawlessly.

Again, apologies if I was Like the only person who didn’t know this haha. I checked the manual and I didn’t see anything about it either, so maybe this will help someone…

That's a great tip! I noticed it not resetting as well and had yet to figure it out. One Pedal driving has pretty much eliminated the break for me, lol.

Good point, I’ve been one pedal for quite a while and literally never touch the brake pedal, probably lead to my lack of pressing it when I shut down!

I drove my wife’s explorer last night, going back to using the brake pedal is awful lol

Thanks for the tip one pedal is awesome, I only moved my wife Prius out of the garbage and was surprised how loud it was and annnoyed i had to use the brakes.

Works great! However, how do I reliably keep the 'This Trip' to continue to accumulate miles? I tried making sure I never touched the brake pedal but it will still usually reset the trip.

You don’t.
just use trip 2 and never reset.

It is not just This Trip. Trip 1 and Trip 2 cannot be trusted either. Went on a recent trip, reset Trip 1. Got 2.3 to 2.5 for much of the trip, yet This Trip and Trip 1 showed 3.0.

The accuracy & reliability of the trip meters concerns me as a stat's nerd, for decades I've tracked all my and the wife's vehicle MPG's fuel-up to fuel-up.

I've resolved to taking the primary odometer reading as of the close of the last day of the month for my travel log, next up is adjusting the measurement date to the day the meter is tolled by the electric company so that I can approximate the miles and energy costs over a month.

We have not received the first bill for the garages new electric service which started 9/30, I'm expecting to see it sometime this month if they sampled it on or about 10/30 or 10/31, funny thing is the neighborhood houses all get sampled on or about the 15th.

Some 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning vehicles may exhibit This Trip mileage not resetting after a key cycle. This may be due to the software in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle and engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition that is expected in May 2023. Replacement or reprogramming of the IPC will not resolve this condition. Monitor OASIS foradditional information and schedule service appointments for customers once therepair becomes available.
