I'm going to assume since I have already had a battery module replaced that I am in the clear. As someone stated earlier, it looks like all lightnings are getting this update. I assume I will get the software update OTA at some point. At the end of the day, its not a recall, its a customer satisfaction program. I think this CSP is to cover anyone who was not identified in the earlier recall. These are all my own assumptions so take this with a grain of salt.

They didn't replace your whole battery, so you have other cells that could go bad. It likely depends on when you had that done. Did they have this SW then or update it since then? I'd think you still want it.

I'm just not understanding how Ford couldn't turn this into an OTA within days and get it out to the vast majority.

They have a queue, and a schedule. This has to be fit in. It's not an emergency.

It's like a medium big deal. The software update is said to do two things:
  1. Instead of "OMG PULL OVER NOW" when HV fluctuation happens, you now go into limp / reduced power mode. That's definitely better than being stranded in the middle of nowhere waiting for a tow truck.
  2. Alleged changes to the BECM "strategy" for detecting HV fluctuations. This could either mean the BECM becomes more sensitive or less sensitive.

Either way, if your vehicle needs replacement cells, it's already in limp mode or on a flatbed to the dealership. But if your vehicle doesn't need replacement cells right now, it could in the future because the entire VIN range is affected.


Long story short, IMO for peace of mind everyone wants this software update. The update doesn't seem to fix or prevent HV modules from going bad, which will require replacement. It just makes the experience somewhat more pleasant.
A truck is not always in limp mode when modules need replacement. I just found out mine needed 2 modules replaced under 23H01. Ford notified me by phone, email and USPS mail that a module needed replacement. My truck operated normally until I delivered it for the module replacement 5 weeks after Ford notified me and set up the appointment.

Ford notified me by phone, email and USPS mail that a module needed replacement. My truck operated normally until I delivered it for the module replacement 5 weeks after Ford notified me and set up the appointment.
That’s pleasing to hear there is some sort of early warning mechanism before it affects operation. I’d like to be optimistic and hope the BECM update is to recognize this situation better.

Called the dealer to look into scheduling my (now overdue) 10k service and asked about this CSP, I was then told the software has an estimated release of end Q4 '23 and in his words "really likely means the middle of Q1 2024"

I think he is reading the part of the CSP discussing OTA availabilty (mid-4th quarter). Have him read the section above that.

Am I misunderstanding everything, or is this not that big of a deal? My understanding on this is that it is a software update so that the battery will be watched better and will shift it into a reduced power state before the battery gets too unstable, right? Like I'm not concerned that there is something wrong with my truck, it's just more a software update that they want to push out.
It certainly can be a big deal. We went to reduced power 1,200 miles from home. Wife flew home a week later. I made it home 18 days later with our dog in a rental car. Truck came home on a trailer. Total cost was 3k for everyone and truck to get home. My case advisor was very unprofessional. Eventually made contact with an upper level supervisor that was great and he agreed to reimburse everything.

I got the same message. I already had my truck scheduled to get the lightbar recall done tomorrow and I called the dealer and was told they could perform the 23B57 update at the same time. I'll update tomorrow afternoon if they were successful.
So I had the lightbar recall work done yesterday but only AFTER I got to the dealer they told me that they have to order the module. They claimed the performaed an update but I have no way of knowing if that's acutally true. Stay tuned....

I have asked my dealer on a couple different occasions and they keep pushing back and say I need the letter saying parts are available. (Frustrating!!)

I've actually kept very close track of this!

DCFC: 16 Total sessions
50KW: 10 All less than 1 hour
162KW: 6 All less than 35 minutes

But yeah I'm also curious to see what your data looks like!
I am wondering the numbers change with a different Soc. I will check tomorrow after charging to 90%.

I have asked my dealer on a couple different occasions and they keep pushing back and say I need the letter saying parts are available. (Frustrating!!)
I got a call this week for. The dealer saying the part was in and to schedule the repair. I didn’t order it.
