Do you have any insight into the differences? I have surmised that recalls are required by NHTSA, and CSP's are done by Ford without (yet) being required by NHTSA.
In a nutshell, until uncle twists their arm it's a CSP.

Recalls are safety issues so NHTSA requires them (or will, once it cycles through bureaucracy). CSP are not safety related, so NHTSA couldn't care less. For example, heated steering wheel is not a safety issue, so NHTSA will never mandate it. Also (I think) CSP can have time and mileage limitation, while recalls do not.

If you have to take your truck in for battery module replacement and / or BECM update, I suggest you ask about having the wiper motor and rear lightbar replacements done, too. My dealership was able to get all of them done, even though they initially told me that parts were not available for the rear lightbar.
Agreed. I received an email from my dealer today regarding the dash mat csp. They wanted to come to my home with the mobile repair truck so I asked about the battery module, and the wiper motor. They called me back and are doing them all mobile truck. Apparently they can update the module here too, doesn’t need to be done at the dealership. We’ll see how it goes on 10/2…

So Monday I called to schedule my 10,000 mile service for today, and asked about getting the CSP's done at the same time. They said they would look into it. Drop off the truck at noon, and they plan on doing the Service but no idea about the CSP's. They do the tire rotation, say I'm good to go so I asked if they were able to resolve the Heated Steering wheel and Battery CSP. Service tech tells me they need to replace a module and it's at least a 12 hour job so I'd have to reschedule that. I questioned if I had a bad module and he said the CSP said to replace it. I questioned how he was reading it and that it was my understanding it was check the module health, replace if necessary and a software update. He didn't read it that way and said the module needed to be replaced by the way the CSP was written. I started to disagree and figured I was fighting a losing battle at this point. He then say's his 1 EV certified tech called out sick today so they can't do any of the addtional things today anyway. So I scheduled an appointment for 10/2 to have all the work done and he said he'd get all the parts on order. I plan to call next week to confirm what they're planning on actually doing to the truck. I'm sure Ford will push back if they order a battery module without testing them first. See how this goes.

Two things confirmed from my visit:
1. I think whoever is writing the CSP's at Ford needs to take a writing class. Confusingly written, and really puts the service team in a bad spot.
2. We know more what's going on with our trucks than the dealerships/service centers. It's a shame.

@Webbo85 , with regards to number # 2 , that's very true & its a shame ,I was at the dealership yesterday to pick up the vehicle & were just frustrated with the lightning , seemed too much of a hustle for them

The service action clearly states what needs to be done. It’s not confusing to me.

Not sure if I just never noticed it before, but after getting my truck back after the 23B57 CSP software update I have seen a message in the middle part of the dash that says "Normal Cruise Active -Adaptive Braking Off". I have not used cruise control and both times I noticed it while driving in a parking lot. Anyone else notice that message?

I got mine done yesterday and don’t have this issue. The modules updated for this CSP likely don’t affect that area.

So I agree that the service action does clearly state what needs to be done. I feel like the service rep I was dealing with probably didn't get past the Subject line below:

His strong opinion was I needed a battery Module replacement, even quoted me how many hours the job would take and said they would provide a loaner. When I questioned if he checked that my module was bad, I even asked him if he tested the battery and he said his EV Tech was out so they didn't. Like I said, at that point I wasn't going to argue about it any longer. Hopefully by the time I bring it in they'll have read through the entire bulletin and understand what needs to be done. If not, I'm not going to let them touch the truck.

Just talked to my service rep. He said they have to drop the battery and take it apart, "for a thermal actuator or something." It's their first lightning he admitted, but I didn't get a clear answer if they tested the batteries first. Have an errand to run then I think I need to call him back. I had to re-read it before I try to convince him.

Oh, and he quoted me 1 week to get it all done.

I'd be super surprised if they can do.a.battery module swap via mobile tech. Software yes though..

Man, I’m stocking up on the popcorn for this movie.

I am starting to think that these trucks are in fact doing the “ET call home” thing, reaching out to mother Ford with diagnostics information. How else would they know that batteries, or a set percentage of batteries, require replacement before they've been physically inspected? What does “identified via connected vehicle data” in the CSP Bulletin mean exactly? I’ve been scratching my head since day one after reading “…CRC will be proactively reaching out to owners of vehicles identified via connected vehicle data that have one or more high voltage battery modules that are experiencing a voltage deviation”. Does this statement imply Ford knows something about specific vehicles before someone even does “hands-on” testing.

If this is the case, it might explain how/why a non-EV qualified dealership mechanic who hasn’t done any testing on a vehicle can make the statement “your truck requires a HVB module replacement”.

Popcorn anyone?
