I've owned several vehicles with moonroofs. All of them, including my 2011 F-150, would allow me to slightly open the roof and close the shade except for the last inch or so. When parked on a hot day, this allowed some of the heat buildup to vent out the roof while keeping the interior mostly shaded.

The Lightning doesn't seem to allow this. It insists on closing the roof if I try to close the shade to anything other than full open. Has anyone figured out a way to slightly open the roof while keeping the shade mostly closed?

Our Pilot has a manual shade cover for the moonroof, so it's no problem. I gave up and accepted that I can't do the same with the truck. My consolation is that I can cool the seats now before getting in so it hasn't been a problem for me. Makes me glad I splurged for them.

The universal windows would have been nice but all I've ever done is just cracked all 4 windows to let the heat out, no need for a roof hole.

Same complaint here. one of the very few things I dislike. You live in New Hampshire. imagine the problem living in the south. I expect to be using the remote start/climate controls often

Ford F-150 Lightning Venting heat through moonroof 1718647372573-wl

Tap once lightly if you're in the NE or MW
Tap once with moderate force if you're in the Mid Atlantic
Tap twice lightly if you're in the SW

If you're in Phoenix, Florida or S. Texas. Keep tapping, I'll tell you when to stop.

I have an XLT so no sunroof, but even in past trucks that had sunroofs, I always get the vent visors for the side windows and crack all the windows. It accomplishes the same things and I don't have to worry about the rain getting in through the sunroof.

The Lightning is no different than the gas F-150s, and no, you cannot close the shade with the vent open.

Couldn't you crack the rear slider some and accomplish the same thing?
I do this as well... but thats really besides the point. Fact is being able to have the roof cracked and have the shade mostly closed would provide additional airflow and would be a beneficial option.

A real software pipe dream would be... being able to adjust all your windows, sunroof, and shade to the ideal "vent settings" and "capture" those locations. (Since there are likely not encoders telling actual position it would have to be done more as a sequence/timing capture, but it could be done) Once captured then have an option on the infotainment / app to activate "vent mode".

I will not beat a dead horse of Ford and its software abilities at this point. I have 0 expectation or hope... just my brain wandering

Yeah, that sounds like something Tesla would do. No way in hell Ford will. They can barely get the percentage to show up on the dashboard. LOL

The moonroof on my 2023 Lightning Lariat ER seems to be identical to that on my 2020 Explorer XLT and neither of them operates in a way to allow venting of the moonroof while the sunshade is fully closed. Annoying for sure, but I guess it is the way Ford is designing these things. I’m not sure what Ford’s thinking is, but I could see that a driver whose sunshade is fully closed while the roof is vented might be more likely to inadvertently leave the vent open and allow rain to come in to the vehicle after leaving it.

Fellas...ceramic tinted windows are your friend. No need to vent. I'm in Delaware with moderate heat humidity and sun. Our parking lot at work is not shaded. Even temps in upper 90s and 100s is no problem. Get in without preconditioning and turn on my seats and drive. Within a few mins it's very cool inside
