I was cleaning my truck earlier and vacuumed up the little rubber piece where the gearshift folds down! I tried unsuccessfully to open It with my fingernail

will have to get some tools out. I have seen the one for the key under the cupholders.

Great place for the xtra key fob battery for me. Hidden key fob is so buried I have a hard time finding it when I need it but a fresh battery is always there formemergencies

Isn’t one of those little cubbies for when you have to reprogram the key? I helped a coworker on an older F150 when he suddenly couldnt turn on his truck. We had to look all over for the hidden spot, but you basically put the key in there, follow a few steps, and it matches the key to the truck.

That’s actually functional- you stick the fib in there to pair it with a user profile in SYNC.

If you key FOB battery dies, you can start the vehicle by placing it in the hidden compartment according to some youtube videos.
Also you can use it to create a MYKEY - see page 79+ of the manual (below is an excerpt):

CREATING A MYKEY

Note: Use these instructions to create a
MyKey for a passive key or a mobile device.
1. Remove the mat from the center
console cup holder.
2. Remove the key blade from the remote
control.
3. Place the passive key in the backup slot
with the buttons facing toward the rear
of the vehicle.
4. Switch the vehicle on using the key you
want to create as MyKey.
5. Press Settings on the touchscreen.
6. Press Vehicle Settings.
7. Press MyKey.
8. Press Create MyKey or Create MyKey
Mobile Device.
9. Press Yes.
10. Switch the ignition off.
Note: You successfully created a MyKey.
We recommend that you label this key so
you can distinguish it from the admin keys.
Note: You can use both a passive key and
a mobile device as a MyKey. You must have
a second passive key and create it as a
