Powertrain malfunction/reduced power

I got my 2023 lightning in march of 24 with 200 miles and 9k plus miles later I get a power train malfunction/ reduced power message and could not drive the truck. Took family to the mall. I had to remove the 12 volt battery to reset, this was a week ago. Well tried to park the truck properly this evening and the same problem again. This is exhausting, repeated the same process to get it to move. Taking it to my dealer this morning. I can’t imagine it happening while my wife or kid was driving.

Hello the truck totally stopped moving right by a dealership. VIN#. Mileage is 9658. I am left without a vehicle now. This is unacceptable especially when I paid $90,000 for a truck. The dealership does not know how long it would take to get it fixed.

As a veteran of two battery failure seasons, let me share a tip: if the dealer doesn't offer you a substitute vehicle, just rent one and bill all your expenses—including fuel—directly to Ford.

Update on powertrain malfunction! The battery array was the problem. It appears it really doesn’t matter what mileage you may have on your vehicle, dealer states the problem could happen at 1100 miles or 20000 miles. Once that happens you will be needing a new battery array which has to be approved and ordered. Considering there are no other lightnings ahead of you it would get diagnosed in a week. Wait time for the battery pack delivery is 3 to 4 weeks. Then it takes 2 days to install and reprogram the vehicle. In my opinion you may be out of a vehicle for about 6-8 weeks. In my case this is week 7 my truck broke down on 8/9/24. all recalls and battery issues were completed on 9/24/24 I still don’t have my truck back due to problems with the driver seat leather changing color. I had to wait 2 weeks to get a loaner vehicle. So good luck!

The battery array was the problem

Most likely it is just one of the 9 battery modules that contain 11 (#9 has 8) cells, where each cell is made up of 4 or 5 pouch cells depending on if SR or ER. If one of the 96 cells is some percentage lower than the others, that is (one of the causes) when the PM/RP trouble code shows up. Hope they get the shipping done more quickly than quoted. @Ford Motor Company should have these battery modules ready to ship, close by, in every area of the country.
