For the cruise control speed sign recognition feature I would like to be able to set a percentage over the posted speed rather than a fixed number.
I normally drive between 15% and 20% over the speed limit. This works out to about 58 in a 50 and 95 in an 80 (these are kms, so ~35 in a 30 and ~60 in a 50 in mph). The problem is that the speed recognition feature only allows me to set a numeric speed additive, not a percentage. If I set 15 over, I'm now going too fast in a town and if I set 8, I'm going too slow on the highway. Being able to set something like 18% would be way better.

It doesn't really come in to play too much on controlled access highways because, if set for highways, the offset will normally be fine.

The other problem is that if the feature is turned on and I have adjusted the speed from the offset value, every time I pass a speed sign, even if it is the same as the last one, it reads the sign again and reapplies the offset, overriding my manual selection. My Telluride doesn't have %'age either, but at least it recognizes that the signed speed hasn't changed and won't change speed if I have manually adjusted it. It does quietly offer to return to auto offset, though, every time I pass a sign.

This probably applies to more Ford vehicles than just the Lightning.

Before going any further I would recommend learning about speed fines in your jurisdiction and how they're calculated. For example, here in Ontario it is solely based on kmh over and not percentages. If you're doing 15 over on the highway you might as well do 15 over in town.

Yes, of course. This isn't about fines.

I don't think it's right/fair to be going 65 in a 50 in a town (40 mph in a 30) but I don't mind doing 15 (10mph) over in the country or on a freeway (as a matter of fact, it's almost mandatory on Ontario highways :)). I might get pulled over doing 10 over in a town, but not 15 over in an 80 or 100. So, even though the fine system, once you're tagged, is based on pure speed over, simple safety, respect for people in small towns and whether you're going to be pulled over in the first place is not.

If the onboard system was based on percentages, it would work out much closer to the way I drive. Maybe I'm the only one who drives like this.

I agree with you... Percentage or at least the option of percentage would be preferred for me as well. Going 65km in a 50 feels crazy fast compared to going 15 over on the highway. I've noticed the exact feeling and race to shut off the cruise whenever it acts that way.

Just a thought - is the mph/kmph over setting tied to the profile you are using? If so, maybe you could set up a city profile and a country profile. Could assign each profile to a memory button.

I can see your point, but I'm talking about driving along a 50 mph road and entering a town with a 30 mph speed limit. On the country road, I don't mind doing 10 over, but in the town, 6 would be better. The point of a system that reacts to speed limit signs is not to require the driver to change profiles every time they enter or leave a town... it is to adjust the speed of the car without driver input. If I have to change profiles, it's easier to simply press the Set button.

The current system design means that I don't use it (and, now that I have seen the other threads on this, there is more to this issue than just percentages). So, unless they give drivers options that make it work like drivers drive and fix the other issues, they have wasted all the effort that they have put into it to date.

Never going to happen.

Speed limit is 60mph. Set it for 4% over. Speed on dash is whole numbers. Instead of 62.4% it displays 62. Drivers freak out, begging for the decimal point...

And (I think) federal regs require a whole number that is 1 MPH above actual.

Tesla lets you do a percentage, don't know why Ford couldn't implement that.

You guys scare me with the speeds you drive. ;)

After driving for over 60 years, I’m 78 years old, I got my first and only speeding ticket last year. I so used to speed sign recognition on my teslas and Lightning I didn’t realize that my one month old 2024 F-450 didn’t have this feature. I had cruise set to speed limit of 60 mph. I didnt see speed limit sign change to 40 mph because I was focused on avoiding pot holes on this horrible road.

I never saw the police car with radar. The cop was kind enough to write the ticket for 15 over instead of 20 over which eliminated the need to appear in court in person. I paid $99 for https://flwebcart.theticketclinic.com/?state=FL Adjudication was withheld and no points. Only paid court costs (plus the ticket clinic fee). I pulled my record later and there is no violation listed.

I have recently set my Lightning to 5 over. Still my grandson tells me I’m “old and slow”.

Speeding is one thing, describing your speeding habits on the internet is something else all together. Is there a different forum where you explain the ways you lie on your tax returns?
