No special fees, but the excise tax still seems like Maura’s hand rummaging around my pocket (not in a good way 🤮). I know it’s paid to the town, but it’s a state program. Excise tax on my lease for three years is about $3400.
The computation rules have not changed, it's just the dang expensive vehicles are a shocker at $25 a thousand valuation.

My city excise tax was:
2022 $750.88 on a depreciated value of 72084.6 {90% of msrp 80094 factored 5 remaining months}
2023 $1201.41 on a depreciated value of 48056.40 {60% of msrp} whole year
2024 $800.94 on a depreciated value of 32037.60 {40% of msrp} whole year

Once we hit the 10% floor of msrp, the perpetual tax will still be a good sized bill compared an old beater.

I’m in the RTA district for Sound Transit and the lightning is heavy enough to avoid paying it. With our MSRP, that’s a savings of several thousand over 10 years. I’ll gladly pay the higher ev tax. I still come out ahead vs a gas truck.
I live in the same situation. Crazy that I pay less to register my 2023 Lariat than my wife’s 2015 Lexus. I’ll pay the ev surcharge.

I posted a link to this PDF, but it got deleted because some members couldn't get to it? I guess?

So attached here is the (same) PDF that details the taxes and fees for different states:

Thanks for the PDF.

The $3500 Mass credit is for passenger auto BEV's while pickup trucks enjoy $7500 credit/rebate

Not sure how old that is, but it is not correct for Texas! It is $200 a year additional cost on top of regular registration from what I understand.
But we did get rid of safety inspections for all passenger vehicles-not sure why you would want unsafe vehicles on your roads? You only have an emissions inspection if you live in the counties near the big cities, i.e. Dallas, Houston and Austin I believe-clean air act!

We do not have a state income tax, so no reason for a tax credit on the state level.

Sorry, it was a site that came up that looked fairly comprehensive.

No big deal!
Would be interesting if it is mostly correct and of course, all states seem to be updating to charge EV’s more money!

$100 in New Hampshire on top of very high registration fees and taxes. New Hampshire has no income tax, no sales tax, and not much else in terms of state revenue. We do have insane property taxes, as that's the only thing that pays for the meager services. Like some others have posted, we are very low mileage. Would prefer to see all vehicles taxed based on mileage reported at vehicle inspection time.

I would happily pay a $200 fee over Arizona's vehicle license tax. Here's what I'm paying for the first 10 years of ownership for an $80k MSRP vehicle:
2023$1387.20
2024$1161.78
2025$972.99
2026$814.88
2027$682.46
2028$571.56
2029$478.68
2030$400.90
2031$335.75
2032$281.19

Free state of Florida is exactly that, no surcharge for electric vehicles.

There was a bill in 2024 that never was voted on to charge a $200 fee per year.

According to a 27 January article in the New York Times, the Feds are also interested in taxing EV owners.

E.V. Owners Don’t Pay Gas Taxes. So, Many States Are Charging Them Fees.
States are using higher registration fees for electric cars to make up for declining fuel taxes, but some are punitive, environmentalists say. A federal tax could be coming. (My emphasis)

Further in the article: "Now, as President Trump rolls back Biden administration measures to promote electric vehicles, Republicans in Congress are considering imposing a national fee to bolster the fund used to finance roads and bridges, a fund that is in dire shape.

The fees are an attempt to make up for declining revenue from gasoline taxes that electric cars, for obvious reasons, don’t pay. They’re an example of how governments are struggling to adjust to technological upheaval in the auto industry."

A later paragraph: " The federal gasoline tax of 18.4 cents per gallon has not been increased since 1993. The Highway Trust Fund, which finances transportation projects from proceeds of that tax, could become insolvent by 2027 without new sources of funding, analysts say. A list of tax and spending policies that Republicans in Congress are considering includes imposing fees on electric vehicles to help replenish the Highway Trust Fund. "

We'll see.

Here is NJs...this is on top of the normal registration fee that based on vehicle class and/or GVWR.

Electric Vehicle Fee
  • Under New Jersey law effective July 1, 2024, zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) are subject to an annual fee in addition to the existing registration fee. The additional fee applies to any vehicle certified as a ZEV pursuant to the California Air Resources Board ZEV standards for the applicable model year. The additional fee is payable in full at the time of initial registration and at every renewal. Beginning July 1, 2024, the annual fee is $250. The annual fee increases $10 per year for four years thereafter. For new ZEV registered, four years of the additional fee is due at the time of four year registration. For example, for new ZEVs registered between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, the additional fee due and payable at the time of initial registration is for the years 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.
So much for NJ for going “green”. Don’t forget to mention the sunsetting of the no sales tax for EV program as well.

They incentivize you to get a EV, but now they are shafting you with these high registration fees. I get the reason, but assuming everyone person does all those EV miles that make up the tax is crazy.
