So I just took my truck in for it 10,000 mi service (~10,500mi) on Monday. I noticed that the 12V battery was low, 47% when I started the truck (using OBDII scanner and Torque app) and got to 50% by the time I arrived at the dealership. I had intended to charge the 12v battery the night before (HVB was 85%) as I knew there was going to be software updates but I forgot. As suspected I got a call from the dealership stating that the updates were failing and they needed more time to investigate. I told them to charge the 12V battery and see if that fixed it. Next day I got a call saying the updates were working and the truck should be ready by 3pm. When I picked up the truck they said they performed the standard maintenance and 2 software recall updates (parking sensors and something else). I asked about the BMS CSP from a while back and they said that did not show up in the system so it might have been cancelled.

I drove the truck home (stopped by Lowes for some items). A couple of things I noticed was that there were a lot of chimes when I start the truck which used to happen from time to time and the sound for the parking sensors changed. Also the truck would NOT unlock when touching the passenger door handle and the radio would NOT stay on when I turn off the truck and didn't open any doors.

Today I plugged my OBDII scanner back in and it was displaying only 20% for the 12V battery level. I decided to hook up my charger but it would not charge and said the battery was full. I performed the BMS reset I found on the forum and now the level shows 58%. Surprisingly enough now the radio will stay on until I open the door and touching the passenger handle will unlock the truck.

Also I was advised that the tires that were on the front, now rear, are very low and should be replaced and that I should be rotating them every 5000mi. That seems way too often to rotate and I expected the tires to last much longer than 1000mi. I don't know if I even want to deal with Ford about the tires and just go through my local shop seeing as how the local shop is only 2 miles away and the dealership is 20.

Any thoughts?

When my '22 Lariat ER was in service for the parking sensor update they told me the 12v was showing bad so they put a new on in under warranty.

I had the Grabbers on mine, they lasted 35k+ miles. I could have gone another few 1000 miles on them but I ended up with a flat that needed to be replaced so I did the whole set. Rotated every 10k, Discount Tire once and dealership twice. No one ever said anything about uneven wear.

Just to make sure, you aren't gunning it at every stop light, right?

Also, how are you displaying Torque via AA?

Many dealers don't know they have to hookup the 12v to a power supply to apply updates. Even the ones that do know return the vehicle with a depleted 12v.

Charge the 12v using the posts under the passenger side panel, not the battery. Let it sit at least overnight. Then, reset the BMS.

14.55 volts is the charging level, not the battery. Once the vehicle wakes up, you can't get a true battery reading anyway.

Tires should be rotated every 7,500 - 10,000 miles. You should not have excess wear at 10,000 miles. I use Discount Tire.

After I reset the BMS I tried connecting my charger again and this time it did start charging so I left it for a little while, maybe an hour, and when I checked it again the charger said full. I will give it a few days and see how it goes. At least the 14.55 volts tells me that the DC-DC converter is working to charge the battery.

I use another app AA Torque to bridge Torque to AA. I forgot where I downloaded it (not from official stores). It used to run seamlessly but recently I have to open Torque to get everything to start working.

The BMS replacement CSP expired in January, that may be why it did not show up for your truck. If you still have the faulty BMS I would recommend that you spend the money to get it replaced. The part is only around $30 and it is a simple install. If you keep going with the faulty one you will have 12V problems forever. If yours matches the top picture then order the part number in the bottom.

Thank you I will do that. I checked before and I had a faulty one.

My truck just turned over 46k with the original Grabbers on them. I have them rotated every 10k at my local tire shop who told me last time that I could get 50k out of this set and it looks as if they are right.
I’ve never bought a set of tires from a stealership. My vehicles have gone in for service and I’ve been told “time for new tires” and my local tire guy counters with “you’ve got another 10 or 20k left.” My tire guy is always right.

That’s one of the joys of small town America. :)

Yeah I am just going to go through my local tire shop. They have always been good to me. Already had them fix a nail on these tires and it was free.
