2023 F150 Lightning ER Lariat, $30k Discount, $49215 final selling price.

Hi all,

I had cashed out my SR XLT while the market was still solid. Now that Ford has brought some substantial discounts back along with POS Tax credit, I am temped back into getting another one.

Pickup is set for tomorrow and I managed to secure a $30k total discount on a Lariat ER which includes the $7500 POS tax credit. I had a few questions for the gang here

1. What should I know about jumping back in?

2. How bad are the updates?

3. Has infotainment improved at all?

4. Does FordPass actually work reliably

5. Would the 18inch wheels be a significant range increase over the 20 inch wheels on the Lariat?

6. Have Service at dealers improved or are people still seeing ridiculous wait times for parts and engineers have to be flown in?

Re 1. There's been a lot of subtle content deletion. The price reductions didn't come out of thin air. From a dramatically shortened Blue Cruise free trial, the disappearance of 80A Level 2 charging, and a smattering of other standard options disappearing, enough has disappeared that early adopters don't have to feel bad.

Re 2/3. Updates are coming fast and furious now. I've received three updates in the past three weeks. Everything seems to be a nice improvement. Ford has upped their game. The 12V battery monitoring fix has helped a lot of folks.

Re 4. I've had zero issues. It's fine, but I typically pay using the Apps to get my membership discount unless I am in a hurry.

Re 5. It's won't deliver that big of a difference.

Re 6. The longest wait that I had was for the heated steering wheel undeletion -- Ford stepped up for us who got shorted with the chip shortage and gave us heated steering wheels. That wait was 3 weeks. For my dealer, there's nothing special about the Lightning at this point and the techs seem to understand them.

I've just crossed over 20k miles in 10 months on my 2023. 20k mile service is on Monday. It's been trouble free. Love it.

Thank you. With regards to the BMS Fix, was this part of a recall or something you specifically asked the dealer to do?

I have had no problems with the Fordpass app, seems like it could do more, but it does do what it is supposed to do.

And my dealer has mobile service which I only used once for the 23B70 LVB sensor.

I am likely trading in my XLT SR for a Cyberbeast, but currently having some (soon-to-be) buyer's remorse. I drive a Model 3 Performance as my other vehicle, it recently started having a camera issue that Tesla can't figure out. One non-working camera means that basically nothing works, no cruise control, no summon, no safety view when turning, my car seems about as advanced as my 2004 Chevy Impala was... but even that had working cruise control! Scheduling maintenance has been a nightmare, closest place is over an hour away and they are only open on weekdays 9-5. I had an appointment for President's day, they canceled late the Friday before because "they forgot it was a holiday." Now I need to take a day off of work to hope they can figure out the issue. If they can't, I'll need to take even more days off of work.

Conversely, I've never had a single issue with my Lightning in a year and a half of ownership. The dealer is near me, their team there is fantastic, it has been nothing but a great experience. My gf is very mad about looking at another Tesla, versus the positive experience we've had with Ford. On top of that, the Ford has cost me half as much as the new Tesla will. The only downside with the Lightning is I can't go on long trips, even with the Tesla stations opening up I don't have the range in either direction down the I-90 to make it from supercharger to supercharger in a XLT SR, especially in the winter. I've tried other chargers and I just don't trust them, Tesla Superchargers just always work and are reliable

I'd likely consider an ER Lightning over a CT if I was sure it would be supported in the medium term, but Ford doesn't give me full confidence in that fact. Maybe at $60k it becomes a no brainer, but due to the fact I'm not eligible for the federal rebate, there's instant depreciation and lack of value for me personally buying a vehicle below $80k. If I was eligible for the rebate, I'd go from XLT SR to Lariat ER and cancel my CT order.

1. ER Lariat is a nice step up from an SR XLT. 510 or 511?
2. unpredictable as ever.
3. Some nice upgrades. Sound is much better on the Lariat
4. Better than a year ago.
5. No data on the 18" - I'm on the 20"
6. Been waiting for 3 weeks for the Primary Onboard Charger replacement part. It is supposed to arrive today. At least my truck is not down since I can still DCFC.

Even with the challenges, it is still the best truck I've had.

I'd take one at that price too. Doubt there are enough 23' out there to sustain those discounts.

**WTF is a Balloon Loan?**

- It's sort of like a lease but you own the car. You can either choose to return the car or buy it out at the residual price at the end of the term. A few CUs in the country do this program. I used First New York FCU. I did this because I am allowed to return the vehicle at the residual price ($50k) and all I am paying is interest for 2 years. This is only to protect myself againt any further depreciation.

The $7500 POS rebate is show as a down payment. Thats how that credit is applied.

That's an excellent deal. The largest discounts in my area are $15,575, on a Platinum and $13,000 on a Lariat. Enjoy your new ride!

Congrats but I don't see the great deal. You are renting a truck for 24 months for just over eleven grand. Not bad. If you want to keep it you gotta buy a used truck for fifty grand. A gamble.
BTY my tax on it would be over $6,700.
