I've had a Jump n Carry Jump box for over a decade and it's a beast when it comes to Jump starting vehicles. I want something smaller that I can keep with me in the Lightning but I want something that has lots of cranking amps. I've researched these Lithium Boxes and I'm wondering what you guys think about them?

Thanks.

I've had a NOCO GB150 for several years, and it has served me well. It has successfully started my 2005 F350 with the 6L diesel.

With the Lightning, you can carry an old fashioned battery charger that plugs into AC, i.e. the Lightning.

If the LVB is depleted,
the Lightning won't turn on,
PPOB won't turn on,
AC/DC charger won't work.

I mostly carry my GB150 for good samaritan jumps for strangers. When I was younger, and was driving a beater, I had many occasions when complete strangers saved my bacon. Now that I am older and arguably wiser, I try to be that complete stranger that helps out my fellow man.

I was pointing this out to my kids several years ago. Watch what happens when someone gets stuck and needs help pushing their car off the road. Complete strangers will bail out of their car to help. Well, guys will. :)

Humanity at work.

Why would you need a lot of cranking amps for Lightning? Good Samaritan in case you need for an ICE?

It doesn't take much power to wake up the truck.

My Jump n Carry box was solely for good Samaritan jumps but if I were to ever needed it, it would have been there.

I ended up with a dead battery at costco one day and bought the one they had, it has served me well. Starts up the old 5.0 v8 without isses as long as the battery pack is over about 80%. You might have to let it sit for a few minutes to charge up the battery in the lighting, but I dont see why any 12v battery would fail to work, its not going to take much to get the truck to power on.

I've had my eye on these lately:
Capacitor-based battery-less jump starter

Basically, instead of another lithium ion battery to worry about, it just has capacitors inside that you can actually charge up on the dead battery in question. Or, if you have access to a nearby outlet, or your own car if you are helping out someone else, it takes 2 minutes to get enough of a charge for jumping a car.

Seems like a pretty cool idea and lots of good reviews about the one I posed as well as other cap based ones.

My point was that if you want to be a Good Samaritan with the Lightning, you can bring your 30 or 40 year old battery charger and use the 120v outlets.

I would never spend close to $200 for a jump box for my own vehicles. Once my vehicles get 4 years old, I load test the battery annually at an auto parts store. For free.

I have had very interesting interactions. Once I was out of juice in DC in a very slow part of it where I could not be ignored (I thought). I was waving people that driving at 20-30 mph for almost 20 minutes before 2 old ladies in a beat-up Prius stopped by;

- "Honey, you need a jump?"
- "My car does"
- "pop the hood, let me get my jumper cable"
- "I have one"

Another time, I was out of juice in front of the high-school during rush-hour. BMWs, Mercedes, Luxus, Audi, LandRover ....would not even make eye contact let alone roll down the window.
A lady in a rusted beat-up camaro with four screaming kids pulled over

- whats wrong honey?
- need a jump
- where are you at?

The secret is beat-up cars and old people if you run out of juice. Each of them alone may work but combination will never fail.

Compact LI power packs are perfect for motorcycles as well, compact and easily tucked in saddle bags or softgear, well worth the money when out in the sticks far from services or little ol lady's.

I have this, purchased for $110, but now listed at $160 - $70 coupon = $90:

Amazon_Solvtin_S6
First unit received did not work at all, but replacement unit holding, after a several months, at 97% charge under back seat. I keep it in its box.

My NOCO jump starter has worked great for me over the last couple years…. No issues as all, I’ve mostly used it to jump the neighbors cars!

Wanted to share but didn't feel like making a new thread. I have this portable jump starter, $50 with a 20% coupon right now. Just used it just now to help a coworker with a dead battery. Told him to keep with him until he can get the battery checked out/replaced. I've used it twice prior to this for my wife's car (kids keep leaving the dome light on). Works great, still shows 50% battery. For $40-$50, seems like a good deal to me.
