Tesla isn't exactly known for shenanigans at the moment of purchasing.
That's everybody else.
Well when we bought our '21 MY off the showroom floor the price was 1k higher when I created my Tesla account than what I was told and saw at the Tesla showroom. The MSRP had gone up and nobody put a new window sticker in the car or alerted the dealership. I was going to back out and was told my deposit was non-refundable despite the price discrepancy. Took three days to even get anyone to speak with about it and 10 days to get them to agree to honor the price I was told and shown. I tried to speak with management at the dealership and they wouldn't come out of hiding.

So I consider this shenanigans although it worked out in the end.

My biggest concern with Tesla vehicles is the rough ride, fit and finish issues and that their head fred is a complete and utter clown. Will never consider one again as long as he owns the company.

And the fanboys that defend no matter what and always talk about their stock ownership is annoying as hell. It's hard to be a member of the tesla forums.

But I'm pretty sure 99% of the Americans that buy vehicles from ICE dealerships know exactly what I mean by dealership sales shenanigans. So I also think they know that I meant about Tesla's selling model in comparison.

I don't own a Tesla
Never been to a Tesla forum
Been driving Ford trucks and buying them from Ford dealerships since the 1970's.

Tough crowd 😳🤣

I generally agree with you and over all I take Tesla/Rivian purchase experience over dealership model any day. Just saying they are not B.S. free.

The Tesla website is complete B.S. because the prices include the federal tax credit (questionable, since it might not be available) and some completely made-up “potential savings” based on the price of gas vs the price of electricity. If anything they are less honest than most car dealerships, I’m not sure how the FTC lets them get away with it.

That is one tab, there is another tab right next to it that shows you MSRP price as you'd buy. I'll take that any day of the week vs dealing with a traditional salesperson or manager at a dealership. You've got to make one click.

That's "peak" traditional dealership though.

Traditional dealerships would advertise cars at prices that were technically possible to achieve, but that hardly anyone could get away with actually paying. You remember the ads, with fine print that way beyond the typical "plus tax, tag, and doc"; for example you'd have to be a recent college graduate, and a conquest buyer from specific other brands; plus a member of both the Farm Bureau and the American Quarter Horse Association; and must finance with our lender at higher interest, etc.) The idea was, the low price would get you thinking about the car, and maybe you'd pay more once they got you interested.

Now, Tesla is doing the same thing - get a bunch of chatter going on, by having influences and news articles talk about "starting at" prices that are much, lower than what you'll eventually pay at time of purchase. I understand that the fuel savings will pay you back eventually, but there's no guarantee how long it will actually take because of factors which we all know can have wide variations such as: how much you actually end up driving the car, how efficient the car actually ends up being for your use case when you do drive it, how much you pay for energy to charge the car, what will happen to future gas prices (or energy prices), and so on.

“The truth is only one click away!”. I suppose people will justify anything, soon we will see Amazon listing one price when you browse an object, and a higher price when you actually order it. It’s on you if you don’t verify that all the items in your cart are the same price as you were told they would be. What world…

would love to see the cyber truck in 10 years. remember the big 3 have been doing "trucks" forever...this is teslas first try.

In the mean time the competition opens up windows of opportunists we can enjoy. If Tesla didn't have that $40K single motor in their 2019 presentation, I wouldn't be driving a $32.5K dual motor Pro today.
Amen brother....It would have never happened without Elon's presentation, we owe our low cost PROs to Tesla!

I think it is and is isn't.

I mean, I live where there's an F150 in every driveway. It's a Texas Camry, so to speak.
The missions range from getting worked every single day like a packmule, to "it's my wife's truck".

The Cybetruck could get it's butt handed to it by some F150s, and it would be the other way around with others.

One thing for sure is the Cybetruck isn't another Minivan or SUV. It's got that going for it!
