If it were only that easy. Current state laws and franchise laws prevent this from happening immediately. The reason Tesla has been successful is that they don’t sell in those states and are a startup that doesn’t have franchises. You have to remember that ford started franchising 100 years ago to scale service and get every American to see the Model T. Ford has to navigate carefully with those laws and more than likely lobby with state laws. There’s much more nuance to this than just sell directly like tesla.It is the brand damaging piece of this behavior that should give Ford the teeth to take action against these dealers. The good dealers should want this to happen for the good of the brand and so the dealership model can still be seen as adding value.
