It is the brand damaging piece of this behavior that should give Ford the teeth to take action against these dealers. The good dealers should want this to happen for the good of the brand and so the dealership model can still be seen as adding value.
If it were only that easy. Current state laws and franchise laws prevent this from happening immediately. The reason Tesla has been successful is that they don’t sell in those states and are a startup that doesn’t have franchises. You have to remember that ford started franchising 100 years ago to scale service and get every American to see the Model T. Ford has to navigate carefully with those laws and more than likely lobby with state laws. There’s much more nuance to this than just sell directly like tesla.

Just a sad state of affairs. I don’t think OP is on here but I doubt @Ford Motor Company will do anything. All the best to everybody else who is waiting.

I've bought an escape and an f150 from Sunrise in North Hollywood and they add those options to every vehicle they sell. Every vehicle they sell has those options added wether they are wanted or not. Their customer service sucks and the managers are pushy, so I bought my Ford Explorer at Vista Ford in Woodlandhills. My Lightning is being delivered at Galpin. Vista and Galpin are by far way better than Sunrise. I would never buy another car at Sunrise.

Yeah..they don't do markups on orders..but apparently they do.
To them, it's not an order after they make the purchasing process so onerous for the original order holder that the order gets "abandoned" and they mark it up as inventory, it's a strategy. ;)

This is the last email the dealer sent me.

He didn't say the whole story. We were going to sell him the truck even after he cursed out everyone in the dealership. He continued to act like a child and got very aggressive with our finance manager. We were very respectful to him but it was 3 hours of cursing. He fails to mention his actions. We wish you luck on your reservation with the other dealer. Hopefully you don't act like that guy

Not really sure how a dealer excuses can go from "they were mean to us and cussed us out" to listing it on their website for 50k more. I think it's pretty clear that they deserved to be cussed out.

Sounds like he shouldn’t have had any reason to be frustrated at all if they were really “going to sell him the vehicle anyways” (and the dealer didn’t specify “at MSRP” in his rebuttal).

Is there a thread that lists dealerships by overall experience? I just switched my reservation from my one dealership to another based on the no MSRP promise (and confirmed by some of the members of this forum). I am curious which dealerships are ETDBW (easy to do business with) and which ones are difficult, and which ones are unscrupulous.

We have had multiple people here confirm the same thing. They deserve all the cussing out after more than a year of waiting.

"The guy was mad at us when we tried to steal thousands of dollars from him. Boo hoo, poor us!"

Hey moron, at any point during those "3 hours of cursing" you could have just decided to not be a scumbag and remove the thousands of dollars of BS charges, and it would all be over.

I'm not saying "3 hours of cursing" was the right response (assuming it's even true), but this clown is just making himself look worse and worse by acting like this wasn't ALL HIS FAULT and could have ended AT ANY MOMENT simply by him not being a lying scumbag.

unfortunately it has become norm for dealers to charge thousands for BS stuff that should be free to begin with. Last year we picked up Jeep Grand Cherokee L... it was the same story there. $500 for Nitrogen filled tires... all ADMs were around $2.5K. It was a good ole fashion negotiation so I didn't mind and was ready for it. Dealer removed all charges and we ended up getting the car. Now if my dealer was to do this on an order when I've repeatedly told them no add ons... no tint... in writing and over the phone, I've every right to be pissed. I'm not in his shoes but I'd have bought the truck and escalated the issue to get refund. Its doable and I've seen it happen first hand. Also that gives you opportunity to rate the dealer which is just so important to them.

How would you get a refund if they added LoJack, VIN etching etc? Genuinely curious because afaik these are non refundable once you pay up.

He was probably cursing after they promised no BS, waited for a year to order, waited a couple of months for delivery and then sat down only to see an extra $3k added and then told to go kick rocks if he didn’t accept it.

So their reaction to him cursing them out was to add $50k more GTFO
