Does a CCS1 to J1772 adapter exist?

F-150 Lightning Lariat ER
I have the Ford Charge Station Pro installed and I want to use it to charge BMW X5 50e PHEV. The FCSP has the CCS1 and the X5 only accepts j1772 plug to charge. Any help will be appreciated.

Quick google search says that it's either not possible or doesn't exist. Might be SOL on that and you'll need to use the ford mobile charger or another charger with a standard J1772 handle.

Easiest solution is to by a joint CCS/j1772 to NACS adaptor and then use the NACS to J1772 adapter.

That is not a thing, "a joint CCS/j1772 to NACS adaptor". NACS uses the same pins for AC and DC charging, which means passive adapters (the only kind made) have to be for AC or DC - not both .

Do not buy this. It shorts together the DC and AC charge pins inside the adapter. It is fundamentally unsafe.

Tesla cars can safely use the same pins for DC and AC charging because they have an extra set of internal contactors. This can't be done safely with a passive adapter. There are many ways this is not safe but the simplest to grasp is that if you plug a J1772 cable into this thing, you get 240V on the exposed, unprotected DC charge pins.

Unsurprisingly, this adapter does not appear to be UL certified.

I wouldn’t use it either, for those exact reasons, but they do exist….just like big foot.

It‘s not inherently unsafe when used with an EVSE or Charger with the combo CCS/J1772 handle, but if you used it with a J1772-only EVSE, you would have 240V AC on the DC pins that could be accessed externally. I could see a 5 year kid sticking a finger in there!

That would be the combination, but likely the CCS/J1772 part is a weak link even if it was designed to safely work.

If you did go that way, you would likely want to disassemble and remove the DC connection elements and only have the AC pins.

That was one big mistake Ford made by not offering an adapter for the FCSP. I had an Escape PHEV that wouldn’t be able to charge off of it too. So I ended up selling and buying a different one that only uses the J1772 plug.

Indeed I had to replace a post-mounted 30A receptacle used for charging at my folks' house after a 5-year-old jammed a garden fork between the receptacle and Tesla Mobile Connector plug "to see what would happen". This adapter puts 240V on pins you could totally touch accidentally, no garden fork required.

I would not trust an adapter like this that was clearly made and sold by maniacs counting on litigation being unable to reach them overseas to safely handle prolonged DC charging use at 250+ kW, either...

Yeah it is a scary product. But I am sure they will stand behind that bad boy all day🤨😏

Unless you absolutely have to have the 80A capability, then sell the FCSP and get a regular EVSE. I used mine for a year and so glad I made the switch.
