I see that there is a price increase after July 31, 2022. For those of use waiting on our trucks to arrive (already built), I presume that we will be out of luck - just like with the interest rates.
That specific quote I pulled is good through 7/31/2022, they announce an upcoming price increase differently.

When you only need tire rotation, and maybe brake fluid and coolant flush after many years, why?
Thats what I was afraid of. IMO not worth it then.
The Lighting is a first year vehicle and still has plenty of systems to break: climate control, safety sensors, large digital screens, suspension, hydraulic brakes, the frunk lift actuators, etc. After 36K miles you are on your own for most of these if they break. For a 12” radio display replacement the single repair would likely cost as much as the 6/100K plan. On my Pro the 8 year 100K $50 deductible plan only costs 3% of MSRP, no brainer for me. For those buying ER trucks the plan is under 2% of MSRP.

Bought mine last night and used up all of my Ford Rewards points since it is so difficult to use them on pretty much anything else.
Great idea! I will have three trucks worth of Ford Rewards by the time I purchase the plan for my Lightning, which should cover about half of the plan I’d buy.

Of course they make money. You are purchasing piece of mind and the ability to roll it into your loan. I am on the fence only because I don’t know if I am going to keep the truck for the full standard factory warranty period. If so, then it is worth it. Otherwise, not so much as illustrated below.

The definite money maker for Ford with these extended warranties/vehicle service plans are those folks who buy the extended vehicle service plan and then dispose of the vehicle before the standard factory warranty and power train warranty expire. In that case, the pro rata retention is 100% profit.

With respect to the manufactures’ factory warranty package and roadside assistance, it is important to note that they are not free. The cost is baked into the MSRP of the vehicle.

Remember that Ford can make money and save you money at the same time -- for example, they're paying far less than retail for parts and labor.

Realistically, the cost is about the cost of one moderate repair -- compressor, electronics etc. I will probably get it.


Can you refund the Ford plan on a pro-rated basis if you sell the car?

I've seen the control arms on the rear suspension. They look expensive as heck and the 2022 Lightning is the first time they've ever been used. ESP is a no-brainer in my opinion.

I never buy the extended warranty from the dealership finance guy, I always buy them after the fact at a significant discount. Extended warranties have saved me significant money in repairs on every vehicle I’ve purchased them for, usually 2-3 times their initial cost. I understand that I am buying insurance, and that if I have a perfect vehicle I’m wasting my money. My experience ranging from Ford, Toyota, VW, Subaru, and Dodge vehicles is that the extended warranty saved me money. If I sell the vehicle sooner I get a pro rated refund on the remaining warranty. I got $1100 back in refund from VW on my 2009 Jetta TDI after they spent $9K in repairs on it.

I posted the brochure that was on the page with the warranty pricing at Flood Ford. The one you posted looks to be more specific to EV’s, which is good.

How about GAP coverage? I am kind of backed into a corner since I normally lease (GAP is included), and this will be my first financed vehicle in well over 10 years… lol. The Lightning has no lease, and Options is supposedly not setup yet for the Lightning as per my dealer.

How about GAP coverage? I am kind of backed into a corner since I normally lease (GAP is included), and this will be my first financed vehicle in well over 10 years… lol. The Lightning has no lease, and Options is supposedly not setup yet for the Lightning as per my dealer.
If you are getting a Lightning in 2022 you don’t need to worry about GAP coverage, you’ll be able to sell it for a profit and the insurance values will show similar if it got totaled.

Also, beware that GAP is not included in most leases these days. I had to buy GAP separately on the Tacoma lease we have, It was in the neighborhood of $600 for a 39 month lease. If I knew how ridiculous the used car values would get I certainly would’ve skipped GAP.

By the way, GAP coverage is required for leases in NJ.

Jesus Ti##y F###ing Christ. Thank God for this thread. My dealer sold me the $100 ded, 75,000 72month plan for $6,000. I was thinking it would be useful for a year 1 new model. This thread shows me I could get that for $780, they got a 769% mark up.

I thought I was so savvy turning down their spray on leather protection... turns out they made a fool out of me. Calling today to cancel.

My dealer offered the 100k/7 year $0 deductible for 3k, its about double what the plan cost, but I paid it anyway, piece of mine and they deserve to make something for helping me buy the truck before it even arrives.
