Hello,

Touchstone Energy Co-Op in my State (KY) is a family of electric companies/co-ops that cover a large portion of the entire state of KY. They have rolled out an off peak EV charging discount but for some reason Ford is like the literally only EV maker not in the program. They said Ford wasn't sharing certain "charging data" that they would need to work with their software and the discount. Look at the list of literally almost every over EV!

Does anyone know who or have any suggestions on how I may be able to take this up with Ford and push for them to get involved? This is frustrating.

Thanks!

My regional energy provider has a similar credit program, and FORD is excluded as well, the issue is with @Ford Motor Company data security policies, at the moment they don't seem to have a trustworthy protocol for communication beyond the immediate customer (US) about our vehicles data outside of Fordpass.

My provider allows us to use specific level 2 EVSE devices that allow communication of charging schedules / usage.

Since I've already installed my FCSP (which is not on the approved list) I'm not able to take advantage of the seasonally variable {3 to 5 cent} per KWH credit.

A quick look at your programs in KY don't show a similar solution.

Seems like your state has got a good alternative. I have not installed my charger yet, will be very soon. If I could get my utility to OK an alternative solution such as using a ChargePoint I may sell my charger and buy a ChargePoint instead.

Good luck with opening the data pipeline. The only reason I can think of to requiring vehicle charging data is so the energy provider can't be accused of turning off charging when you need a higher SoC. Seems like weak sauce to me. With those EVSE Tax man listed, they will still have enough data from the smart charger to monitor consumption and control demand. I think you'll get more by trying to demand some flexibility from the power company instead of Ford.

Ford will not share telematics data with the Virginia Mileage Choice program (reduced clean vehicle road use fee), either. That is administered by a third party company for the Commonwealth. You have to use a proprietary OBDII dongle, which blocks your OBDII port. Ford seems to have locked out all third parties for everything. Consider it a mixed blessing, be careful what you wish for....

GM allows Mileage Choice mileage reports and evidently sells LexisNexis data reports. I found out when I requested my LexisNexis data. Unbeknownst to me, every trip I ever took in my Bolt was part of the data they were sharing. I had all sorts of 'hard acceleration' and 'hard braking', which seems to be triggered when OPD and the Regen paddle are used together. o_O I can only imagine what it would look like in a Lightning.🌩In the last few days, I think GM said they would stop selling driving habits. But, my secret is out of the bag.

I do appreciate their privacy concerns, but this is one thing we should be able to OPT IN for.

How are they not set up for off peak charging discounts? That's a huge thing across the country for EVs right now.

Thanks for pointing out this charging benefit program. Unfortunately, we are three houses away from being on Farmers RECC. I can literally see the lights of the first house on their from my front porch. Even though Ford isn’t listed KIA is and we also have a EV6. 😑

We are serviced by Tri-County Electric and they have no Off Peek discounts at all. 11.5cent per KWH regardless.

MA has similar programs. I was participating in NGRID territory for a number of months before Ford decided to stop sharing the data.

Ford does share charging data with Duke Power in NC. I pay a fixed $24.95 per month for up to 800 kWh. I get a credit based on what Ford reports to Duke each month. Duke sets the charging schedule at home and can implement additional peak times when they can limit charging. I’m able to override the time limits a certain number of times (currently 4 times a year) but I’ve never needed to. This is technically a trial so maybe Ford isn’t participating in other programs until they get some data from this one. The Duke trial only covers Ford and Mercedes vehicles.

That’s how I’m doing off-peak charging with my utility. I sold my FCSP and bought a ChargePoint (of which my state has a rebate) and registered for cheap electricity. It was a .10 discount, pretty sizable.

Wow, I would have thought the charger itself could communicate and provide all the information the utility company would need to know to participate in the program 🀷

Well, now this is really interesting. So Ford can share data if they choose to.

Allegedly my utility company says talks are ongoing with Ford. We will see how that plays out.
