I don’t disagree with the implementation…I guess. But it’s poorly done if it winds up disabling the vehicle for 90 mins. The lack of an override is a huge design flaw imo.

How many times did you power cycle it during the 90 minutes? I'm wondering if you did it X number of times, maybe that reset it? I'm just thinking about that if you shutdown a computer 3X before it fully boots, it goes into a Recovery mode. That's really not the same but...?
Maybe Ford received an stranded error code and reset it remotely? :)

WAY more than 3! Hell probably 25 trying different things.

Imagine getting robbed or attacked (i.e. someone holds the door open when you are getting in). You throw the truck in drive and step on it to get away, only to have the truck auto-shift to park for your safety. I think I'd rather have full control of my truck and take responsibility for my actions if I'm stupid enough to leave it in drive and walk away.

Wonder what the dealer will find thru the codes. Please let us know what they say. You are going to have them take a look right?

From day one I've rolled my eyes at that big clunky mechanical shifter. It's only there to give a familiar feel on first driving impression for people coming from traditional trucks. I would much rather have a knob or buttons somewhere, and additional cup holders/storage in that area instead. Obviously fewer/no moving parts would be less failure prone.

A rare miss from the design department, in my opinion.

Glad the OP got unstranded.

I personally like the shifter. The shift dial makes no sense to me. Maybe its a generation thing.

The few times I have dropped the shifter to lay the work space flat, I have felt concern...it definitely sounds and feels cheap...thus I rarely drop the shifter out of fear. Would much prefer some form of knob that allows the work space to lay flat.

I tend to agree, and I'm betting Ford had a tough time making the decision, but which we see here in this thread, there are different likes and dislikes, so the trade-off is, which I read about elsewhere on this topic, is: While a push-button or rotary shifter could have saved space and added a more modern feel, Ford likely prioritized user experience, familiarity, and durability over minimalism. The traditional shifter may feel "clunky" to some, but it aligns with the expectations of the F-150’s core audience.

I've seen a thread here where someone replaced the shifter with a knob from an Expedition. It was plug and play, and allowed the work space to lay flat.
