FDRS got a minor update yesterday from 43.6.3 to 43.6.5.

Here's the link to download the update. It's a minor update so no need to "Remove User Data" during the setup.

This update added a form that dealer techs need to fill out to prove that they did the software updates that whatever FSA they were working on said they needed to do. An anti-shenanigan verification procedure.

I'm trying to do an update this morning but the GWM doesn't want to play ball, communication issues and it switches over to an USB update process that never seem to go anywhere.
Other modules appear to update just fine (doing RFA right now).

Any thoughts on this besides pulling the 12V for a few minutes ?

Let us know how the RFA goes. As reported many times, it says successful but stays on the list. I compared all the software codes (including F188) before and after and none of them changed. All other modules I updated showed an updated strategy (parameter F188).

The GWM is a USB-based update. It's not CANbus based. You'll need a 32GB (or larger) USB (3.2 gen1 preferred) drive formatted to exFat, 'Default Allocation Size', and with a short name like "Sync" or "Ford", etc.

Oh, well duh, I didn't recall / remember that it was and it tries to initiate comms and fails, so I just figured the USB was a failsafe kind of thing.

I did pull the 12V and that didn't change anything so I just went ahead with the USB update and left it for quite some time and this time it took it. (maybe because I changed the name from whatever it was, long, to "fdrs")

GWM, APIM, TCU, and the IPC (with exceptions) are USB-based updates.

And all of them should be done before anything else in the list is attempted as a 'best practice' to avoid software dependencies from causing updates to fail.

I realize that shop service techs do not necessarily follow these guidelines because they are working to a SSM, TSB, or a diagnostic step sequence in response to some issue the vehicle is in the shop for. But those of us doing this ourselves are able to work smarter and not harder.

I just got the GWM update as ECG-24.2.5.7 OTA.
These are the OTA notes for that update on your '23 model.

This update enhances your vehicle's software performance, providing a smoother and more consistent connected experience.

ECG-24.2.5.7

My '22 model has a different revision of the gateway software than what you got via OTA.

I'd like to compare what I did in FDRS with a '22 model that gets this as an OTA to see if it matches.

That's it, except it also explicitly calls out the Gateway Module, so that's how I know what it is, lol! I haven't seen 24.2.5.7 anywhere else so might be EAP.

Question: I have a 2023 Pro ER. I've replaced the IPMA with a sideloaded module to add 360 cameras, and I've replaced the ACM to gain HD radio. What kind of fits would FDRS give when trying to update everything else?

I guess further to this it also got me thinking, what happens to those modules if ford decides to push an OTA to me in the next century?

It is my understanding that my as-built data gets synced back up with Ford's database periodically, but does this extend to modules as well or will FDRS assume all modules are factory versions/part numbers?

I'm not chomping to go out and do a bunch of updates especially considering this isn't a bluecruise trim..... it's more of a curiosity if there were other bug fixes/improvements in the future that I might want to take advantage of (HVAC/Charging, etc).

Eventually, all your asbuilt data is sent to the cloud, all modules. If the system throws a wobbly because you've colored outside the lines with the IPMA module it will show a GVMS warning in FDRS to note the there's an issue with the data. GVMS data warnings in FDRS, as stated in the program, say that software updates may not become available for modules with the warning.

Thanks. It makes sense. So if I am absorbing the content of this whole thread - as long as my sideloaded IPMA is not a dependency for other modules to get updates it shouldn't be an issue. Does that sound right?
