Just got this as well, EAP.
After all of these years, while I thought Ford is improving their descriptions… this description is very lacking.

Yes I am a very tech oriented person and am forever hopeful, yet also a realistic person. I always say similar things when I do the after update ford survey I find in my email.
The devil is always in the details, also explain things like you are talking to a 10 year in detail lol.

Let us know how the RFA goes. As reported many times, it says successful but stays on the list. I compared all the software codes (including F188) before and after and none of them changed. All other modules I updated showed an updated strategy (parameter F188).
Mine stayed in place as well.
I had tried to update them a few weeks back, I tried again now, and I had a Ford person come over to do the recalls (more to get them off the books since I had done the updates already) as well as the BCM (I now have WAL) and he tried to update them and they're still there.

The Ford tech mentioned that there's an upcoming IPMA update that might resolve the issue.

After my FORScan success, I'm preparing for a FDRS experience soon; both Clore PL6100 and mongoose cable ordered.

The reason for my post though...I've seen some folks in the thread (and search) mention the clone vcm2 options and I really wanted to go that route but didnt want to trust myself buying the wrong/subpar option. Besides the clone vcm2, I have been seeing a VNCI VCM3 offered that sounds like it is fast/as fast as the vcm3...and mentions FDRS. But I havent seen any threads/posts here about it.

Does anyone here use/vouch for this option?

I know of one person who has been using that cable for almost a year now with no issues. He got it from alibaba for $132. The guy using is has above-average knowledge of module programming and he vouched for it and recommended I get one if I even need to replace one of my Mongooses.

With that said: I have never used it and will stick to my Mongoose cable. I don't condone the use of this cable myself, but I do know of at least one person who would.

I decided to get a genuine VCM3 after what turned out to be false alarm on mongoose and I can honestly say that I don't notice any difference. It might ge that the 3hr ipma update is faster but the rest of them seem to take about the same, so personally I don't feel the VCM is worth it (from a cost perspective on the real one and risk on the clones) as long as FDRS supports Mongoose.

Thanks @rugedraw, at least there’s a verified success option in this search history now.

Although FDRS is mentioned in the advertising, most of the sites selling it offer a hdd/ssd VMware image of IDS (that is sketchy) and I was just looking for a confirmation with FDRS.

As I stated I was contemplating a clone vcm2, it would appear there’s possibly less risk of buying a wrong/incompatible unit going this route (albeit this is still a “clone” so who knows).

Seems to be available on Amazon (not Prime) for about the same price. I think the thing with any of these is to not use the included software which seems to be pirated and full of viruses. The only exception might be a windows driver but maybe that can be found more safely.
