LFP are long-lasting and are less expensive than NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) or NCA (nickel cobalt aluminum) batteries but they are less energy dense and not as good at low temperatures so you need more battery for the same amount of juice, especially while cold.
With LFP you can also charge to 100% without worrying about capacity lose.

Glad I am getting a lighting before they make the switch. LFP batteries really don't like the cold and it would suck to have a truck you can't drive below freezing or that need to draw constant power to keep them warm.
Its only about -20 C where they start to have issues. Granted, growing up in Montreal, I have seen that a lot in my time, so there is that.

No. Solid state batteries don't exist in consumer vehicles just yet.
You are right, it's slated by Toyota to start in 2025.

No doubt.

Though, come to think of it, Diesel's don't like starting in -20, but they still do it. I am sure things will only get better over time.

I've been wishing for some LiFePo4 batteries for my RV. I have them for my lawn mower and love them there. The original price of the 100Ah's were near $1K. They have dropped to a third of that and hopefully will equal Lead Acid.

Yup, paid a pretty penny for two of Dakota Lithium's 12v-100a/hr I have these units powering my race trailer inverter, looking forward to being able to hook up to the Lightning power outlets directly

I'm with the camp that they might be used in the Pro or other shorter range versions. It is in their interest to have multiple battery types and uses. Maybe helps diversify of suppliers/factories too.

Tesla has started using LFP, but for a small fraction of their cars - the SR's.
