still no joy for me on 6.5.0. 0100 ET update postponed. LVB is 91%, HVB is 85%. Feel like I need to stand in the bed holding some tin foil or something...

Got the LVB up to 93% and tried again. 6.5.0 update now installed !

While I wait for 6.8.0 to install, struggling to get LVB SOC high enough, see the 6.8.0 thread....

I did a quick 100% charge to see what the actual GOM value might be, interesting to see it's no longer projecting 320 miles, but still an optimistic 302 miles, given my driving style and comfort requirements, I proceeded to burn off this excess charge.

My goal was to get it back under 85%, then later this evening just prior to the 1:00 AM update-install it would also bump up the LVB SOC which at the moment is sitting at 58%.

Samples from the burn off excursion, temps outside in the mid 30's, SOC as I was pulling out of the garage, earlier while I was plugged into the FCSP it was saying I was 99% for some time, but as soon as I unplugged, the dash shot to 100%.

Ford F-150 Lightning Power-Up OTA 6.5.0 - Minor Adj {Heated wheel & Dep Times} 1703131299138

It finally dropped 1% after traveling 10.5 miles, during this portion of the round trip, the cabin was initially cool so I also burnt some extra joules warming up to 69 degrees. Traffic on I-95 was dense so speeds contained until I got on I-495 heading toward the cape, my plan was to loop around when ever I reached 92% or less.

1.4 mpk over 10.5 miles comes to 7.5 KWH or ~5.7% looks like I'm burning off some undocumented headroom +/- rounding errors, etc.....

Ford F-150 Lightning Power-Up OTA 6.5.0 - Minor Adj {Heated wheel & Dep Times} 1703131314898

At this point I've burned off 10% traveling 30.1 miles, I just looped around the rt-24 & I-495 interchange, heading back toward home.

1.5 MPK over 30.1 miles comes to 20.07 KWH or 15% drop in SOC, but the SOC shows 90% remaining. Inversely 10% or 13.1 KWH over 30.1 miles indicates an unrealistic 2.3 MPK!

End of the trip, a little more spirited driving, south bound traffic is like Nascar....

1.4 MPK over 51.6 miles comes to 36.86 KWH or 28% burned, but the SOC shows 78% remaining.
Burned SOC of 22% or 28.82 KWH over 51.6 miles indicates 1.79 MPK still well above the 1.4
Ford F-150 Lightning Power-Up OTA 6.5.0 - Minor Adj {Heated wheel & Dep Times} 1703132111847

Energy distribution:
@ 1.8 MPK = 2.6 KWH for heat, 24.2 KWH for driving, 0.3 KWH for Acc. & 1.7 KWH for Ext Temp
@ 1.4 MPK = 3.3 KWH for heat, 31.0 KWH for driving, 0.4 KWH for Acc. & 2.2 KWH for Ext Temp
Ford F-150 Lightning Power-Up OTA 6.5.0 - Minor Adj {Heated wheel & Dep Times} 1703132494197

GOM projection after this sprint shows I have 200 miles remaining for either 1.4 or 1.5 MPK on 78%
102.18 KWH for 200 miles I need to achieve a burn rate of 1.95 MPK which would be possible if I turned off the HVAC completely based on the above energy distribution, but at 1.4 I might only go 143 miles.

Less hot rodding might improve endurance, but the adjusted 100% to 0% range would be around 194 miles not 302 or even 320 this time of year.

You've nailed it. There are Tesla owners trying get lawsuits for this "misrepresentation" too. Bottom line is the 320 for our trucks or any published number for any EV is what the government endorses for their testing and EPA mileage numbers. No vehicle has ever reached the numbers on the window sticker the way the majority of us drive however- ICE or EV.

The key from my observations driving both the Lightning and a model 3 and Y, is that once you get a few miles on a charge and you enter a destination, the Tesla is very good (I never double checked Tesla, trusted implicitly and it never failed) at the proper calculations and Ford isn't too bad. Due to many other misses I still don't trust the truck and I double and triple check it, but the ETA's do start to better align and give more realistic ETA's and distance you are able to travel.

The key is on an interstate or at highway speeds you'll likely never see 320, ever.

Mine failed to install the 6.5 update after three failed attempts. Maybe a blessing in disguise after I just read all 8 pages of this post. How would I check the charge level of the LVB?

Finally got mine today. Last few updates all happened after I turned of connectivity for a few days and got the update immediately after I turned it back on. Most likely coincidence but there may be a line of code that looks at what you are missing when you connect.

p.s. LVB at 75% during installation. After installation, it read 22%.
A 15 min drive took it to 85%. This kind of speed in charging 12V battery looks unreal to me. It usually goes to a crawl at 70% for me. Makes me think the 22 was not real and the update messed with reading. I am not even sure it should be able to start at 22%.

Has anyone encountered issues with software updates to 6.5.0? My vehicle has been trying to update for the past week at the scheduled time but it doesn’t update. All preconditions are met but nothing happens. I’ve even tried updating, the countdown starts and it states the update will take about 12 minutes but nothing happens. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Have you had the BMS sensor replaced (CSP23B70)? Mine struggled to complete updates but since I got the new sensor I’ve had 2 updates complete on the first try. I’ve never had an update complete without multiple tries and I had one last year that failed 14 times before it completely bricked the truck.

No I haven’t had the BMS sensor replaced.
I’ll have to get in and checked out. Thanks

Well known issue with the 6.5.0 update (as well as other inhibit updates). Check out the dedicated thread on 6.5.0. Basically you need to make sure your 12v battery is sufficiently charged. Hopefully the BMS replacement helps in the future.

It'll be interesting to see how this one goes and how the departure times preferences work under the control of the new FP app 5.x.x
