So I just got the dreaded Powertrain Malfunction code on the dash.
I had just taken my 2022 truck in to get the recall software updates done, and while driving off the lot the wrench appeared. Luckily I was still on the dealer lot and could just stop and go back into the service center.

Now the dealer is telling me that I need a brand new battery.
I have questions about the process from anyone who has gone through it, or knows about it.
  • I am being told the battery is one back order. Should I expect a 2022 OEM battery or a new OEM part?
  • Is end of Feb a realistic expected completion date?
I have many more questions but still in a bit of shock. I am sure as I read through the threads i will have more. Any advice or info is appreciated.

Thanks

You should search (Magnifying Glass top of the screen )the forum for Power Train Malfunction. Everything you want (don’t want to know is there.)

Hopefully you find all the questions in the thread Dean has referred you to, but 45 days to get your truck back is a bit long, I don't know the particulars of the dealer service workload ahead of you and the logistics feeding them the required module(s) to repair your battery pack, hopefully it's just a single module swap (one of nine gone bad in the pack), it's very rare to swap an entire pack one for another.

It is quite a coincidence getting the wrench right after dealer visit. May I ask which software update it was?

If your truck requires a battery MODULE replacement you can escalate the part with Ford. It only takes a couple of days to replace a module but the parts will have to get there first.

Unless aftermarket modules are now on the market (which they're not), you will of course get an OEM one.

As @Maxx inquired, if you just had the software update for the hvb system it may have detected an out of tolerance cell with the new limits.

This!

That update also instructed the dealer to run a module test before applying the update & replace module(s) if necessary. We had at least one other person on here whose dealer only applied the update and he got the HVB error soon after. Sounds familiar.
