I'm going to play devils advocate here....yes I've order the Tesla adapter and yes I'll use it when I eventually get it. It was supposed to be delivered in May then June now God only knows when and maybe even the big Man doesn't even know???

Truth is having or not having a Tesla adapter should not prevent any of us from traveling. Personally I think the Tesla network is way over hyped and based on personal experience the non Tesla networks work just as well. Never been a fan of Elon or Tesla, too many false and broken deadlines so I don't expect to ever get a reliable answer from them.

The experience is very situational and time based. 2021 wasn't great. 2022 got better. 2023 got worse.

We have been in 25 states and tens of thousands of miles. A state in 2021 (Florida, or Georgia) was a cluster with EA. 2022 was a little better. 2023 was worse, so much so that we went home up 95 and then cut west. Now they've replaced chargers with newer ones, so the experience is better.

Some places have no other options, for example Moab, UT has no CCS charging, but they have Tesla Magic Dock. Some places have no Tesla, or the old V2 we can't use.

It's a game changer sometimes, and sometimes is cheaper.

Dislike Musk, think the cars are awful. But when I can save a lot of money, or charge where I couldn't before, or not wait for an hour, I'm using the Tesla Superchargers.

I don't plan on much long distance travel but once I get the adaptor Tesla chargers will be my priority, others only if I have to but looking at any of my possible destinations, Tesla will be it.

As always, YMMV. Depends where you're traveling. I did a 9500 km road trip across the western half of Canada using CCS and it went fine. BUT a lot of the CCS chargers are only 50 kW (which means ~45 kW on the Lightning), and there are often only two plugs per small town. Tesla chargers should be at least twice as fast and have minimum 6 plugs. So if it's more than just me traveling, having to wait for a charger would be much less likely. I did my trip in early April, way off season, so I never had to wait anywhere except right in urban Toronto. But in summer that may be different.

I'm dong a trip from Calgary to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia next week. I just received my A2Z adapter today. Great company to deal with btw.

There's some sketchy spots through Ontario, so I'm glad I have the adapter, but so far it looks like once I enter New Brunswick, none of the Tesla stations are compatible.

I'm trying to do it in four days. Wish me luck.

It'll be a race to see if the Ford adapter comes before Kia gets authorized to charge on Superchargers.
You can already register a Niro EV and an EV6 using the Tesla app. I don’t think there would be any issue changing a Niro EV or an EV6 at a Supercharger as long as you have an account and you use the Tesla app to activate the charger.

You can already register a Niro EV and an EV6 using the Tesla app. I don’t think there would be any issue changing a Niro EV or an EV6 at a Supercharger as long as you have an account and you use the Tesla app to activate the charger.
I am fairly certain that is not accurate, unless you are referring to "Magic Dock Superchargers".

For v3 NACS enabled units there is a handshake protocol over the comms that will grant the charge to authorized vehicles which are limited to Tesla, Ford, and Rivian.

I am fairly certain that is not accurate, unless you are referring to "Magic Dock Superchargers".

For v3 NACS enabled units there is a handshake protocol over the comms that will grant the charge to authorized vehicles which are limited to Tesla, Ford, and Rivian.

Yes I saw those but those were early days and I have no idea if those vehicles were registered. Maybe the same isn’t true now. Of course I don’t have any way to test but I would if I could.

I can confirm.

My Kia EV9 (registered as an EV6 in Tesla's app as EV9 isn't available) will work at MagicDock chargers. My Kia will not work at non-MagicDock chargers using a Lectron adapter. I attempted to try to "trick" it by selecting my Ford's profile but it won't initialize.

Editing to note and add details.

I tried initializing it from scratch from Tesla's app, if you select a Kia profile, even if you add that you have an adapter, the locations available to the Ford (ie, non magic dock) will not show up.

So then I tried unplugging it from the Ford after starting in Tesla's app and then plugging into the Kia, as well as initializing with Plug N Charge then swapping it over...no dice on all 3.

Cause it is for their charging network and you can register anything in the app. Like I just did with my “other” “other” car.

At non Magic Dock Superchargers, only Ford & Rivian are currently the only brands that will work at V3+ Tesla Superchargers.

Once an agreement / contract is signed by other manufacturers, they will also join.

Well if you travels are successful more power to you for sure. Mine have been horrible and my family really has no desire to be held up needlessly at EA and EVGO stations. I'll run Tesla as primary stops and all others as backup. I've used 2 magic docks so far and the experience is just perfect. I don't care if it cost more or helps Elon, in fact I'm happy to keep those hard working employees employed by using an excellent service. Could it could to pot? Sure but so far the best guarantee is that EA will always be garbage.
