I'm just curious what you need to do with a truck that you couldn't do with an avalanche?

The Silver-Avalanche probably has more costly accessories vs. the Lightning which can sport most standard F150 accessories directly.

I do have a reservation for a Silverado WT (3 minutes after launch) and will see if their "$40K base WT" actually comes to fruition or if they play the same games as Ford with limited Pro production.

While my 2022 Lightning Lariat is being built, just not sure I am going to find value in a $70,000 truck that is going to be my daily driver. I originally wanted the Pro or XLT trim..

Yes - I am fearing that GM says they have 400 mile range, but in order to get that is if you spend the extra $$ on top of the $40K base WT.

Would love to know the standard range on a base $40K WT (like a Pro trim) ???

That was exactly my thought. I have a first minute Silverado EV reservation(non 1st edition)..which means delivery sometime in 2024. I will keep the reservation until last minute in case Ford screws up and/or charging is an issue.

I really wish Ford had a range closer to 400mi, but more importantly I wish they had an 800v system with fast charge capability. Kia/Hyundai are already at the forefront of charging(non-Tesla) along with the Porsche Taycan. I've been watching charging comparos of the Mach E(400v) vs Ioniq 5/Ev 6(800v) and the difference is striking. Of course that only applies on a road trip situation.. but still.

We'll see what happens with the Blazer/Equinox EVs that will hit the market first. That will be the first real test of the GM battery/charging pre Silverado EV

Same. Though I won’t buy a model that includes those options . Better to have options! Plus there are dealers out there offering invoice or decent discounts from MSRP.

Whichever comes first for actual ordering, that is where I will go. I have a late (6/3/21) reservation for Ford, and an early (within the first 5 minutes) reservation for Chevy. My current vehicle is a 2009 Silverado hybrid, and it has held up well. I need an electric truck for all the work around the farm - better than hauling a generator. Since this will be my vehicle for the next 15-20 years, and possibly my last purchase, I will be a bit particular. But from hands on of a Ford, and what I've seen with a Chevy, it's still going to come done to availability.

Ya I strongly doubt the $40k version will have 400 miles, but 300 miles with the speed of the 800v system will be great. If they can make that available for under $50k (which I do see happening) than I'll be more interested

If interested watch youtube video from "Out of Spec Motoring" (2 parts). The crew raced from from Ft Collins CO to Las Vegas in a Porsche Taycan, Ioniq 5, 2 Teslas, and Mach E. The rules were they had to stay under 5mph over the speed limit. The point was to test the charging speed and infrastructure.

Spoiler-- despite having more range than some others the Mach E finished last due to charging speed.(There were also other issues as well). I anticipate the Lightning will have a similar charging approach to the Mach E. Thats not necessarily a bad thing...but is conservative.

While charging is reliable, the envelope is getting pushed towards 800v-->faster charging speeds. This can make up for a lower range. (ex. Ioniq 5).

I won't ruin it anymore.. but neither Tesla finished in first place... despite having the supercharger advantage.

Funny thing here is there actually is a limit to some of the 1st gen DC Fast chargers..even the EA chargers are limited in output so newer vehicles can't even ramp up to full capability.

I don't quite understand all the specifics.. but Kyle Connors goes into great detail on some of his charging videos.

CCS is limited to 350A and goes up to 1000V. Since the Ford is ~450V, we're capped at roughly 150kw. At least it appears to be a relatively flat curve, averaging 120kw through to 80%.

Tesla also uses a 450V system but newer superchargers are capable of more current.

I did a 3800 mile road trip in my Taycan 4S and the charging speeds are great when you get a compatible charger. Since it was mostly up and down the east coast I did pretty well.

The Taycan holds the record for the EV Canonball mostly due to charging. I can see a situation where the IONIW best because I think it’s chargers a bit faster. I’ll enjoy watching.
