Is there a way to ascertain how many a given dealer will get? I'm 10th on the list at my dealer, who only got 1 lightning for 2022MY. If there's no chance they'll get to 10 I might want to change dealerships myself...
This has been the root of quite a few forum member‘d frustrations. One member said they reserved within 15 minutes but were told they need to wait for a 23 because the dealer hit their limit.

The trouble is you needed to know before placing the reservation, and that‘s completely unfair. If 15 people selected a small dealer that otherwise would only get an allocation of 3, that poses a big problem.

One way to handle it would be to give that dealer 15, but that leaves room for fake orders.

A simpler solution would‘ve been to take the 3 reservations, then tell the buyer that the dealer is sold out, and give them a second dealer to choose from who still has allocations available.

Unfortunately, neither happens. The 4th customer selects the dealer, then 3 reservation holders are invited to order. The rest have to wait another year, even though they placed their reservation earlier than those who selected a larger dealer.

If you pay attention to the way they’ve worded the numbers they have only said they will have *capacity* to make 150k by the beginning of 2024. They still haven’t said anything but 80k for next year, and that’s capacity not planned production. 80k should be the max expected production for 2023my and most of that will be in the second half of the year. At best, someone with a 7th day reservation can probably expect a late 2023 truck. If they are in a non-EV state, probably 2024.
Actually, they've said 150,000 run rate by middle of 2023. With model year change, my estimate is that the 2023 model year will be 80 to 100,000.

Why cancel? Ford would/needs to raise the price, keep your reservation most likely to keep your original pricel

Price gets locked in when you order. Reservation does not hold price.
When reservations opened, final pricing wasn’t even known yet.

Look at Rivian, I believe Ford could learn something. So it is possible Reservations would have some advantages.

1. It’s only $100
2. You cancelled a reservation, not an order
3. Should you change your mind your are now hundreds of thousands further back in line.
4. SSB is >10 years away.

I think it's the other way around. Rivian had to learn the hard way not to offer a vehicle at a specific price point that is years away from being built.

Let's see. I agree Ford did not set price for reservation, but people would be angry if they don't have any advantage when price increases by 15% across the line.

Nobody likes price increases, and I'm sure there will be some upset buyers that were deferred to MY23, but Ford will be able to defend their price increases better than Rivian who told their prospective buyers, "here is the price you will pay if you reserve today!"

Perhaps Ford will offer those original reservation holders a discount over a new reservation when they open up again. If Ford is not taking a loss on that discount, I think they'll do it, even if it's relatively small of only a few thousand bucks. I also think more reservation holders are apt to take the offer because they're still saving money over the new price, even if it's higher than the MY22 price. Ford saves most of the bad press, they convert more reservations to orders, and they don't take a huge bath on the recent inflation.

I'm likely in line with most replies, barring any unforeseen financial issues I would never let this reservation drop/cancel. In fact, I've kicked myself for not having a second one. I'm a lucky one, my truck is being built tomorrow. I'd give anything to have a second reservation down the list a ways that might come up sometime in mid-2024. By then we'll know what Ford is doing with second gen truck, what Tesla might finally get on the road and if I didn't like any of them, I'd probably be able to sell this '22 for what I paid for it and upgrade to a '24 or '25.

For those that are also frustrated with the wait - I signed up for a Model 3 on March 31, 2016, knowing it would be a while. 2 years and 3 months later the car came around. Never once have I regretted that wait. It was well worth it.
