I am charging at 80A without problems via a Tesla gen 2 wall connector and 80A TeslaTap, so the truck is definitely capable and has no problems or errors with 80A when on good equipment. I am awaiting shipment of my CSP.

(I really wish I didn't have to use an OBD adapter to access the charge current, that's rather crazy and Ford should show it to me *somewhere*.)
It's definitely the CSP. It charges flawlessly on DC Fast chargers and the mobile charger.

Right - but the mobile charger is 30A only, and DCFC doesn't use the same charging mechanism (goes directly to battery vs. using the charger in the truck). So if the question is whether there are problems at 80A, I answer that the truck handles it well but the CSP potentially has issues here.

(Early Tesla owners also had some bad experiences with 80A, it's a pretty high charging current for consumer-oriented gear. Many people had to reduce their current to 72A or even 64A because of voltage drop or other heat conditions when the dual-charger Model S's first became available.)

I’ve had both experiences. I’ve charged at 80A both with and without errors.

Sounds like the CSP can't actually handle 80 amps like designed. It seems everybody here has issues and nobody reported being able to successfully charge at 80amps without issues. Everybody who changed to 64amps seems to have no issues at all.

Definitely an issue with the CSP they made, that's for sure.

I’ve charged at 80 A several times without any issues. I’ve also charged and received multiple emails, but it didn’t seem to affect the charging.

Set to 64 amps and had only one error last night .

I’m wondering if there is anyone here who has taken delivery and has their charger installed and is charging at 80 amps without any errors in the FordPass app ?

i don’t get any messages; but that is because I am unable to connect to the charger. It has no network access. But it does charge.

I may try to make a video of how to connect to the charger for the first time . It’s just as terrible as the errors

wow, after reading through 7 pages of posts, this is definately looking bad for Ford. They need to fix this particular issue fast but also their ability to support their product or many of us my second guess buying when our time comes up to order.

CTBob- The access code and the wifi password are the same. Does your access code happen to have an O or a 0 ? For reasons I will never understand, Ford/Siemens decided to have a mixture of both zeros and capital O's in the access codes.
. My access code does not contain any 0 or O. Finally called 866-631-3788 and have a case number which Ford says someone will call me in a day or two.

Adding mine to this list. When set to 80 amps, it trips every 5-10 minutes with an "overheated" error message. Ambient air temp is only 75. Once I de-rate to 60 amps, it charges all night no problem. I had to stair step it down from 80 to find something reliable- nothing in between worked for very long.

And yes, tried to power cycle, factory reset, etc. Nothing worked while at 80 amps.

And the saga continues! Got a call from the marketing department today apologizing for the issues I had with reaching someone that could help with my CSP issues. She was really nice and really wanted to help. She said she had a number to call and was going to transfer me to the BEV department. She asked me to hold while the call was transferred, and then proceeded to leave me on hold for over 5 minutes. She came back and said the transfer was going to the wrong place. She then put my on hold again to try again. She came back over 5 minutes later saying it's not working and that it keeps going to the wrong place. She apologized and said she would get things figured out and call me back later. Sounds like she was going through exactly what I went through the two times I've called. What a sh!t show!

This may be one of you guys in this thread but here is someone running it with 2AWG and having similar problems. Good info in this video.

Anything from Ford? I am wondering if these units are unable to handle 80 amp, maybe I shouldn't run 3AWG for mine, and should just plan on downrating.

Just run 3 awg as the instructions say to do, otherwise you'll be to blame if anything goes wrong for installing it wrong.

There is something to be said for prolonging the life of the equipment by downrating. I've noted in other threads that many people found that 80A charging for Tesla cars was problematic initially and they settled on 64A or 72A charging instead with their high-power WC's, without issue. Most people are fine with overnight charging of 48A or more, truck will be charged by the time you wake up.

There are two use cases for trying to get 80A to work properly - 1) you have a relatively small time-of-use rate window in which to get the truck charged at a lower rate of electricity (e.g., you're only offered 12-2 am at the much cheaper rate and need to get as much charging in as possible during that time), or 2) you expect to come home regularly from a full day of driving and need to get back out on the road after a few hours of charging for weekend activities.

Scenario 2 can be handled with DCFC chargers as they become more prevalent.
Scenario 1 may require you fight to get 80A working well.

My CSP is arriving tomorrow and I'll probably spend this weekend replacing my first-gen Tesla HPWC with the unit, I'll be setting it for full 80A and will see if I experience any issues.
