TeslaTap 50A is $170, 80A is $240. Yes, free or no more than $150 would make sense.

The extra length should be part of the package since they know it will be needed.

I still don't see how we can get an extension cable for DCFC when the rest of the cable has to be actively cooled. That will be very interesting, not sure I want to go for that.
It just comes down to length and weight. There might be a sweet spot where just a foot of extension that is fat enough to not need active cooling is not too heavy, but 2 feet would have to be so much metal that it would be 35 lbs.

Something to keep in mind is part of the reason the cables are cooled in the first place, is because they have to deal with so many sessions all day, and need to be durable. They might design an adapter with the idea it can get a little hotter than ideal during the first part of the charge, and that's ok, because it is a replaceable part that shouldn't see too much use day in and day out.

And I quote “We’re going to ship an adapter to everyone who’s bought a Ford EV,” Farley said. “This is not just for the future, it’s for all the people who already bought our vehicles. So they’ll get an adapter from Ford, they go on FordPass, they pick the payment option they want, all the billing is the same as it is today, so it’s going to be super easy.” When you claim your going to ship something to all your EV owners, you're not saying your making it available for purchase. You're implying your sending it to them for free as a "thank you" for putting your largely imperfect EV program on the map. They should do the right thing and make it free.

I'll be disappointed if @Ford Motor Company charges for an adapter. Elon Musk essentially built an amazing charging network to support Tesla vehicles. Ford, GM, Stellantis have contributed nothing to the charging infrastructure needed to make their vehicles a consideration. Now they have to piggyback on Tesla's charging network due to their lack of planning and investment. One should not have to spend hours of time on research for a family road trip wondering, hoping, all goes well with their planning related to CCS charging. Do the right thing Ford - you've saved millions by not investing in America's charging infrastructure - send all Ford EV owners, free, an adapter to make charging your vehicles as brain dead an exercise as filling your tank with gas.

You could do the extension cable with thicker wires. Thicker wires means less losses and more heating, but also more weight and cost.

For the AtoZ adapter - the 300A limit would be a pretty big bottleneck and limit you to around 100kW charging in the real world. That is a pretty big speed cut vs. what EA / EVgo can do when they are working right. The good ole speed vs. reliability argument.
People don’t realize how much current is required to deliver 150kW, given our Lightning’s relatively low pack voltage (low-mid 300v). Any adapter that passes less than 500A will prove to be a disappointment, and its users will probably accuse Tesla of derating their Superchargers…

I thought the max amperage that the Lightning would request was 475, and only for a few minutes?

Hot topic. As Farley said, he will ship adapters out to all current Ford CCS EV owners. It is expected this will be free since Ford changed directions on early adopters.

Tesla provides CCS adapters for $175 USD. Aftermarket adapters are available for far less. After Farley makes good on his claim, it would be ok for Ford to offer a similar CCS adapter for a similar price for use on the NACS EVs delivered in 2025.

It is unlikely I will pay for an adapter if Ford decides to charge for something Farley said he will send out. I will spit the bitter taste out and continue driving. While I agree with the change in the charging standard, this will cause grief for CCS EV owners in the long term if the adapters are not readily available (free) and reasonably priced if replacement is needed.

Farley said free, in the midwest charging is a mess. Im in Sioux Falls for work and if i didnt have my tesla adapter to charge at the hotel id be screwed. The only level 3 CCS in town charges $5 to plug in and then $0.78 per Kw at a whopping 50 kw (despite being rated higher). The Ford dealer is supposedly installing 28 chargers but we will see. BTW there is a nice big bank of Superchargers hardly being used.

You never want to run power equipment right to the limit of capacity, so you would want at least a 500A limit to support that 475A draw.

I wasn’t aware of that spec (where did you find the 475A number?); I got my impression by watching OBD data in Car Scanner app. Regardless of 475A or 500A max, an adapter that only passes 250A-350A isn’t going to be capable of much more than 100kW; meaning, longer charge times!

I'm expecting the adapter for free if I bought my car new from Ford.

If I bought my truck used from a non-Ford dealer, I would expect to pay roughly $100-$300 depending on the adapter capabilities (ie, 48A, 80A, NACS Supercharger adapter?)

I would pay $500 out of pocket for a retrofit of my CCS to NACS, which retains the ability to utilize my FCSP somehow.
