Very curious to see if anyone else is having this issue.
I just purchased a 2023 Ford Lightning, standard range truck. When I am slowing down or starting out, when the speed hits 3mph almost every time, the truck shudders and you can feel it in the floor with your feet and the steering wheel. Its not violent, but it is very noticeable. I turned off one pedal driving, brake hold, I tried the different drive modes, and it always seem to shudder right at 3mph. It almost feels like when you lug the gears in a manual transmission at low speeds.. Of course I dropped it off at the dealership and they could not re create the issue ? Thanks !!!

Below about 5mph, even with one pedal drive, the physical brakes are being applied. Maybe you have rust, or an uneven spot, on the brake calipers or pads.

Try doing a few hard braking runs from about 25 or 30 mph and see if that takes care of it.

I turned off the one pedal drive and just used the brake. The shuddering stopped. I will just run like that for a while and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks !!

It shouldn't take very long. A few solid stops should clean up the rust on the brake rotors and then you can go back to OPD. I haven't had to do this on my Lightning, but I've had to turn off OPD on my wife's MME periodically to clean the rust off the rotors. Seems the rotors are better quality on the Lightning but not immune to rust while sitting on the lot for a few weeks.

Are you possibly experiencing this?…

Title: Ting, Pop Or Clicking Noise From The Front Or Rear Wheel Hub When Accelerating Or Applying Brakes (Torque Reversals)
Date:11/28/2022
Models:
  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning Lariat
  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning Platinum
  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning Pro
  • 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro SSV
  • 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning XLT
Summary:
Some 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning vehicles may exhibit a ting, pop or clicking noise from the front or rear wheel hub when accelerating or applying brakes or when shifting between drive/reverse (torque reversals). This condition may be caused by stick/slip between the hub and half shaft interface, during the torque reversals creating the ting/pop or clicking noise. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to install the new anti-ting washer between the wheel hub and axle shaft.

Get to speed, shift to N, gently brake to slow some. Shift to D, get to speed, repeat.

Do this after brakes get wet or every now and then.

I've had my Lariat for two weeks. I often get 3 quick "shudders" during 1PD at the point after acceleration is transitioning to stable speed. At first I thought it was caused by road surface but now I note that it occurs fairly frequently.
Also, no idea if it even is related, but today while using 1PD, it suddenly went out of 1PD yet the Controls screen showed that 1PD was still engaged, but the slider was grayed out. As soon as I tapped the brake, 1PD re-engaged and showed active. Hmmmm.... Is my truck haunted??

I almost started a new thread until I found this post. Had a scary situation happen to me this morning.

Was driving in Sport mode with 1PD on, as I always do. I approached a 3 way stop, coming down a hill and the 1PD was slowing me down as normal. But then when I got to probably around 10 mph 1PD just went out on me. Immediately after I heard a loud "clunk" sound from the front. I hit my brake and stopped but at this point I was about 1/4 of the way into the intersection. Fortunately, no cars were in front of me and it was a large intersection so there were no close calls. But still, it really scared me. After that, 1PD worked fine. No further odd sounds or anything. Did not receive any faults on the dash or anything that would indicate something went wrong.

I've always made the habit of putting my foot over the brake when coming to a fairly quick stop "just in case", but there are plenty of scenarios where I'm using the acceleration peddle to "manage" the 1PD until I come to a stop. It could have been really bad under a different scenario.

I searched this forum and this post is the closest I could find to someone else experiencing this issue. Has this happened to anyone else (aside from reversing down a hill)? Any idea of what the "clunk" sound could have been?

Thanks for posting your experience, this thread is good enough place for it, I haven't experienced anything like this yet, have you had any recent updates (OTA's) on your Lightning?

Nope! Got mine in September and haven't received a single update yet.

Not sure if it’s the same, but one of my trucks felt like there was a transmission lag or gear shift at low speeds. I felt it was odd but didn’t pay much attention to it…until I got my ER which didn’t have the issue.

This solved it..

Hi Joe! I can look into your Lightning's shudder concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Lightning's VIN?

@Ford Motor Company - my vehicle also has the "3 quick shudders" thing, not necessarily at 3mph, but usually just after accelerating and my foot pressure lets up on 1PD. It's inconsistent. I have not yet addressed this with my dealership FYI.

If its just in the steering wheel, that's the lane assist. If you get near the center line or shoulder line, you will get three quick shakes in the steering wheel. There should also be a red line show up on the bottom of your display showing you what line you crossed..
