I'll post here to keep everyone current on the status of my lemon law claim. I also informed FORD I was pursuing that option and they can propose a settlement or a buyback option instead of going to the arbitration hearing. I spoke with someone in the NY AG's office today and I will be filing the arbitration request and fee shortly.

Thanks,

I received a call from FORD to say they were going to buy back the vehicle and would call me next week to provide details and timeline. So hopefully I'll know more after Christmas.

While I am happy for you… I am sad for us. The long term parts retention isn’t looking good. For some reason, this reminds me of GM only allowing you to lease and not buy the EV1.

...they're buying back a whole truck.....because of a frunk latch issue.
🤦‍♂️
Yeah, if that is the case it is more than ridiculous. Ford not calling back is also ridiculous, but if you use the term "lemon law" to them I have heard they stop talking.

A frunk latch should be easily obtained with reduced truck production.

Ford RAV (Re Acquired Vehicle) team has their stuff together. You will be assigned one rep to communicate with and he will provide the offer in writing. You will be pleasantly surprised with the offer. They will refund all costs to include price paid, taxes, fees, license/title fees, payments and interest.

I went this route 2 times with Ford and once with Nissan. . Most recently with a 2019 F-350. I elected a replacement instead of a buyback only because when I bought my 19 350 the sales tax was minimal due to high value truck that was traded in. They replaced the 2019 F-350 with a custom ordered 2020 f-350 SRW.

Get your stuff together. You will need copy of original sales contract, copy of loan agreement, all payments made, registration and receipts for any aftermarket stuff you put on the truck.

Makes one wonder if the dealership ran into something more serious and just isn’t communicating about it? Which is almost as ridiculous!

Make sure the buyback offer includes reimbursement for 4 months of loan payments and the rental expenses. This is complete garbage.

That being said, the whole "just take the part off the line" thing isn't realistic. If you've worked in a manufacturing company you'd understand that "production rules". If the manufacturing group says you can't take the part, then you can't take the part. They have priority and they are judged on how many units they put out. You'd hope that companies would have a holistic view of the situation but they don't. Especially large companies.

I was hoping that at the 30 or 60 day mark there was another level of escalation to the FORD COPIS system but it seems like there is not.

I do work in a large engineering company with manufacturing on site. One of the reasons I was willing to take the leap to an EV pickup is that I work on electric vehicles :) I do understand your point, but there has to be a balance and I have seen parts come off the line to satisfy field service requirements. There is often a negotiation between various production customers when a part goes short...with no one getting everything they need/are owed.

I went to the dealer to have them print out all of the service records and get the loan paperwork and window sticker and everything else out of the truck this week before I called FORD to request the buyback. I will defnitely accept the buyback offer if it is what you say (better than NYS lemon law).

My cousin got his car totaled when the mechanic decided to impress his date with a joy ride far away from the shop. You never know what happens after you drop it off.

The first week after I picked up my truck, my Frunk freaked out and I decided to use the back row for day to day use and use the Frunk only occasionally. One thing I like about my Pro is that it is LESS convenient than other trims. I just wished Frunk was less convenient as well and was completely mechanical like the hood of any car.

I wanted the PRO, the dual panel moonroof and huge screen are nice, but I wouldn't have paid for them on a regular pickup. The Lariat was what was available when my reservation number came up for order and I didn't wanna wait another model year.

The PRO was such a no-brainer at 50K with the tax credit. Any ICE crew cab 4WD pickup is ~55K these days... and like I said w/ my commute I was saving 300 a month on gas.

Look at it this way, if you got a Pro, you could still have the same problem. We all try to do the best with options we have. Ford told me on the first round, they are out of Pro to push me to upgrade but I told them I am not interested. I was not in a rush. Got it at $40K in the second round. I am trying to be as nice to the truck as I can to delay the inevitable (going to dealer). I have no confidence in dealers around me.

I wish you the best of luck with the buyback.

I always look at the “what if and when will it break” plus the complexity of design. I hate Musk but his “no part is the best part” solution truly makes sense. And although I love my powered frunk I‘d probably go pure mechanical if I had a choice. It’s gonna break sometime.
