I got an impressive 173KW on the EA-350KW machine last Sunday, much better than I was getting on 150KW systems which were averaging 110-125KW

Ok, I think this is still related to the 2024 change where they got rid of the dual AC chargers for the ER trucks. They must have also made the rest of the charging infrastructure (AC and DC) based on the SR battery as well. Remember the SR battery has never been able to charge at the higher kW rates of the ER. From the tech specs we see that an SR takes longer to 150kW DCFC than an ER despite having a smaller battery.

SR takes 44 minutes to add 63.7 kWh [(80%-15%)*98 kWh]. Avg power= 87 kW
ER takes 41 minutes to add 85.1 kWh [(80%-15%)*131 kWh]. Avg power = 125 kW
(Peak kW will be much higher)
At a 50 kW charger the numbers are roughly the same for ER and SR at 42 kW average.

My 2023 SR, maintaining 167kW at EA 350kW charger (it takes the 500A capability of the 350s to maintain 167kW on our Lightnings).

My 2023 SR, maintaining 167kW at EA 350kW charger (it takes the 500A capability of the 350s to maintain 167kW on our Lightnings).
I'm quoting Ford's average (not peak) from 15-85% (remember charge drops off significantly at 80%). But that's still impressive for a SR (or even an ER).

I frequently, if not mostly, get 178/179 kw for the first 10-15 min. at 350 kw EA chargers then it slowly drops to 120 as it approaches 80% SOC. Maybe the numbers in the FAQs refer to average charging speed over the entire course of the charge instead of a max rate of charge.

IMO I think it’s just a holdover from the original FAQ (preserved here). EA was front and center early on with the free kWh. Maybe lazy FAQ’ing?

Our limits are from the amperage, which is why the peaks are much lower on the 150kW charger, my peak on a 150kW charger is around 127kW.

IIRC the 150kW outputs 350a max and the 350kW outputs 450A. So 350A*400V=140kW max vs 450A*400V=180kW max. (Assuming the onboard chargers support it)

I wonder if this is due to the 2024 using a different battery chemistry? That may affect the max c rates.

I also think a 120kW charger wouldn’t be bad IF it was able to hold the rate for longer. I’d rather have a 120kW charger 0-100% vs a 150kW charger 0-80% for example. It’s this reason that the R1T has a higher peak but the Lightning charges faster in that range. Need more info before we come to a conclusion.

Didn't the 2024 SR Lightnings switch to LFP batteries? If so, I suspect that is the reason, those tend to charge slower.

my PRO SR has seen EA speeds of 168kw several times...
