2024 F-150 lightning
Hello all, first time posting. I have the 2024 lightning model. 2500 miles on it. Paid $1400 for the 80amp pro charger. Been on the phone with customer support since the day after the charger was installed. Cannot charge higher than 46ish amp , 11kW, regardless of the battery level. The only exception is when the electrician was still at my home and we checked it was working for a minute or two and we reached about 70 amp. This never happened again.
I am basically charging as if the switch is on position 5. Position 6 and 7 does not increase the amp. Position 1,2,3,4, and 5 regulate amps as advertised.
Support checked my pictures ( proper install, wire, breaker) and remote connection, and said everything looks good so they blame on the truck.
I took the truck to the dealer. Did some updates and compared my truck with 2 other units and said everything is fine.
Any input is appreciated.

Yep sorry, unless it a specially ordered pro, all '24s have 48A max charging, no matter how much power you feed it.

Terrible decision by Ford IMHO. Before they could boast that they can charge 0-100% in an ER in 8 hours, something that some other EV trucks cant because their battery is so large (GM). Now they are capped at a mediocre 48A, and the lightnings fast charging capability is, well, rather lacking compared to the competition.

All that wasted time. Ford didn't tell you, dealership didn't tell you?

They should refund you the cost of the 80A charger and any increased installation costs for the requisite 100A circuit vs. the 60A circuit that would have been required for 48A charging.

Insane that no one at the dealership, support, etc. told you in all this time that 2024 Lightnings are limited to 48A.

Totally ridiculous.

Disgraceful that Ford/dealer didn't inform you about '24s not having dual onboard chargers and being limited to 48A. I'm not sure how you measured 70A with the electrician. You should immediately ask for a return/refund. There is no benefit gained by using the FCSP for your truck. I'd get an Emporia unit, way better and less than a 1/3 of the cost.

EDIT: Only reason I would keep is if you want the 80A for future EV that can use it.

Does that mean that I can have 80 amp if I buy a pro charger from ford pro? Trying to see if I can swap my charger with their model from the pro fleet

Sadly, it doesn't work like that. You can't upgrade the charger setup in the truck after it's built. If you want the full 80A charging, you need to swap out the truck for a 24 pro that is optioned for the 80A charging. Or buy a '23.

The car will only accept up to 48 amps for home charging.

You would need to swap your truck for a vehicle that will charge at 80. The limiting factor is the truck system and yours is not capable of accepting 80 amps.
The Pro Chargers are "all" 80 amp capable, so if you:
1. have a vehicle that will accept 80; "and"
2. a 100 amp breaker that does not overload your electrical system,
you will charge at 80 amps.

Do you intend to install the Home Integration System [HIS]?

If no, then what you have is wasted resources, unless you're buying another EV that has 80 amp onboard charge controllers! Trucks like the 22 & 23 Lightning with ER battery packs can charge at 80 amps, but not your 2024. Only way to get this feature is to be a fleet buyer, ordering a Pro model with ER battery and specifically optioning the dual 80 amp OBCC.

Sorry @Ford Motor Company sales teams [dealers] let you down by not being well versed in the product they're selling!

Here's where the confusion lies.

The AC Charger is built into the truck. 2022s, 2023s, and fleet 2024s have dual onboard chargers. Yours has one. The dual onboard chargers allow the 80amps.

The "charger" Ford gave you is not a charger, it's EVSE (Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment). In other words, it's a giant adapter providing the 240v from your house to your truck via the charging port in the truck.

Think of the Ford Pro as a spigot... same for the Ford mobile charging cord (the mobile EVSE). They and all other EVSEs are just electricity spigots... some have a bigger "throat" (more amps) and some, a smaller throat (fewer amps).

Na, won’t install the home integration system. I talked to many departments this morning. Half of the people did not know about the limit to 48 amp for my model. Worse, even though I reached out to them within the 30 days window of purchase with my “problem” they say I cannot return the charger either.
