The posters who mention apps for charging do have a good point. Can EA, Tesla, and other charging apps run on the older phone? They can be awfully important when Plug&&Charge doesn't work. How about PlugShare, ABRP, Google Maps, and other planning apps? If those work, FP is less critical; if not, the purchase of a newer phone may be justified for several reasons rather than one.

EA, Tesla, PlugShare, ABRP, Google, FP, and the C logical and are trademarks owned by their respective owners and are used in this post only to identify services. No endorsement or indictment of any particular service is expressed or implied by their use. The author of this post does not assume any responsibility for any failure to charge in a timely fashion due to malfunctioning chargers, power outages, overheating adapters, Juiceboxes(tm) in general, too much time and not enough useful things to do this evening, nor the presence of Bolts at a fast charging station. Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball(tm).

I was under impression that Ford's Plug&Play does not require the phone.
I couldn’t set up Tesla Plug and Play unless I set the Lightning to “non Tesla“ up on the Tesla App and selected Plug and charge on the Ford App.

I think you can set up Plug&Play at Tesla or EA just using the Web.

Setting up the Tesla app has zero impact on whether Ford Plug & Charge works at a Tesla SuperCharger.

App is worth having to check charge rate, lock/ unlock and other handy features.
If you like the smaller form factor (I do too) get a used iPhone 13 mini
That’s what I have been using.

It still supports the most recent operating system. And is not a “phablet” / giant phone.

As someone previously said, I think once you have the app you will find it valuable.

Dude your phone is 8 years old. You knew the answer before you asked the question, it’s time to let go and upgrade 😂

Hi,

Just purchased a Flash a few days ago. I could not install the Ford Pass app on my iphone 7 because the iOS version is too old and cannot be updated.

A few questions:
1. Do I even need this app or can I do everything I need to do from the truck’s control panel?

2. The dealer said something about calling them back when I do have a phone capable of running the app, so they could set up my account and give me some points or credits or something? I had no idea what she was talking about, but it was closing hours and I didn’t want to keep her there late, so I figured I could learn more later. Can someone fill me in on what she was talking about?

3. Is there a legacy version of the app that works on iOS 15?
I found I had to have the app to set up the connected services, and also I think to get the Ford Reward Points for buying the truck I needed the app (FordPass).

READY TO CONNECT? HERE’S HOW:
Download FordPass from the App Store® or Google Play™ and follow the prompts to set up your account.
Make sure your vehicle is turned off, then select Add to add your vehicle.

I run FordPass on an inexpensive Android Lenovo M8 tablet I got on sale at Walmart I think for around $60 - I use it through our wifi - didn't add it to the cell phone plan - my wife always has the iPhone and I don't want to be looking at a tiny screen to look at info about my truck so a tablet works better for me.

If you don't want to buy any more hardware, there are some emulators that will simulate a cell phone or tablet on a PC or Mac laptop etc.- not sure how well they work though.

This article has some free ones listed:

It is not required. I find that I rarely use it as well. The only real value I get from it is the ability to start conditioning the cabin remotely (aka remote start).
It tells me my tire pressure without having to go out to the truck and check.
Also it tells me where my truck is - I suppose a thief would be able to disconnect the location module pretty quickly though.
I can precondition the truck if I want to.
And it tells me what it thinks my charging history is - not 100% correct, sometimes misses a charge session if I have 2 in one day.

So it can be useful for killing time with information input to your brain.
